I'm not the seller. I do not know the seller. I have no interest in the outcome of this auction.

I just thought it was really cool to see such an unmolested, low mileage Trail Edition....

I didn't see it when it ran last month... it looks like it hammered for $30k with fees but it was a dead-beat bidder/winner so now it's relisted.

It looks really nice except for the rusty frame. Some of that rust looks pretty bad. I’m sure above the skid plates is even worse.

16k and it looks like that underneath? Hmmm.

my 2011 with 172k looks cleaner underneath.

I can see these early 5th gen trail editions going for good money. I think there the nicest looking 4runners since the 3rd gens. But it’s black and it hides the sweet fender flares which really set these off.

Also, I noticed the there is no rust on the passenger LCA. It doesn’t match the drivers side LCA. That tells me the repaint of the passenger corner was part of a significant collision. If an LCA needs replacement after a collision, I’d be worried about frame damage.

That 4runner is on its way out. No matter how good it looks on top, that frame is done.

I’d say it’s not terminal, or even the worst thing ever. But it sure isn’t worth the 30k sombody backed out on. At this age, even the low mileage is a bit of a drawback, since the thing could have been sitting abandoned for years at a time. That’s not good for the mechanicals. Ultra low mileage is fine for a show queen with consistent history of proper storage, but this isn’t that

True! It probably just sat somewhere for years rotting.
For that money, a much newer, cleaner model with all service history should be available.

I’ve turned down almost free, older 4Runners because of significant rust.

LMAO at all the "that frame is done" comments.

Welcome to the Northeast. That thing is clean for a 14 year old northern vehicle.

Could it be that the LCA was replaced because of a frozen cam?

Ugh, yeah that’s always a possibility (trying to avoid the fact that I should probably check mine).

Although given the low miles and repairs to the body, I’d want to find out for sure that there’s no collision damage to the frame mounts, even if I wasn’t paying collector car prices.

Was it stored on a beach? My 4Runner has 15,000 miles on it, driven in Canadian weather and looks better than that. Perhaps an odometer rollback?

I think this is exaggeration. At least from the pictures, it is simply rusty. Done would be rust holes all the way through.

Agree. A wire wheel on a drill and a coat of fluid film black will have it looking like new.

It is for a unit with only 16k on it. Mine has that on it, and the undercarriage is still flawless, even with driving in Canadian conditions. Just look at the amount of surface rust on the entire axle. My four year old Tacoma looked better than that.

It's a 15 year old car are you comparing the spread of rust against a 4 year old car ? Trying to understand logic here (i know with Americans is hard task)

I would not touch a 4Runner with that much rust. There are thousands of these on the road. One can find a vehicle for any year in a condition one likes and at a price one is willing to pay.

I agree. There’s a lot of rust on those welds. Inside the frame rails is going to look much worse. The listing said it was from an estate sale of someone that died. The elderly person that owned it probably rarely washed the undercarriage

Did they actually offer the black seats with bright ass whiteish trim back then?

Looks so off with the contract difference.

And they compared it to their 23 as well. For what it’s worth, mine had spots with rust 2 weeks after I got it, they were found when spraying the undercoating. It was brand new, only at the dealership for a couple of days.

Miles don't have much to do with it. Things rust when they're stationary.

It's a light gray. It looks better in person. I put a black cover on my center console lid, makes a big difference because that's really the most noticeable thing.

Look at it closely, that is a detailed, polished, well used 4R with AT LEAST 100,000 miles or more. The mileage has been rolled back, guaranteed, that vehicle has seen 100,000 road miles or more, i wouldnt doubt it has 150,000 miles or more. You dont get that kind of oxidation on the aluminum without running it in lots of salt water, meaning roads in the winter. You wont get that kind of rust on the frame on a vehicle that spent all of its 11,000 miles in the saltiest roads. That kind of rust on the frame, suspension, oxidation on the hubs, brakes, engine and trans, paint imperfections and rust on the exhaust tells me its got well over 100,000 miles. The exhaust gets "old" looking by being hot, being driven, under loads ect ect. The hotter the exhaust gets, and getting wet, is when it rusts and turns colors. You dont get an exhaust looking like that in 11,000 miles, 111,000 miles yes, but not 11,000. The passengers lower A-arm and tie rod have been replaced too, but not recently, probably 20,000-40,000 miles ago. They are oxidizing and rusting but not at the same rate the rest of the suspension is. I suspect the passengers lower and tie rod were replaced. There is way way WAY too much wrong with this thing.
I bet that vehicle had a different set of tires and wheels put on it to ride on, and when they got ready to sell it they put the stock tires and wheels back on, rolled the mileage back, detailed it to the best of their ability with a great glaze / wax / buff, and hoped it would sell to someone too dumb to realize that vehicle is a scam.

BINGO, that thing has a LOT of miles on it, look at the drivers seat, the side cushion is squished flat, that takes 100,000-150,000 miles of use to blow that side cushion out and "perm press" the fabric into a wrinkle. That 4R has a LOT of hidden miles.

Or it just spent 14 years parked in New York rusting away like metal does in wet climates.

Mileage and age is not very correlated when it comes to rust. Some correlation, did it drive in salted roads etc. But overall, its age and it will rust given its location especially if it sat outside. It will probably look worse if it had driven more. Overall it doesn’t seem like BAT material to me. Also had an accident.

I thought that to but with the interior being pristine and the NY inspection each year tracking mileage with no big jumps, I'd say it's accurate.
