What kind of mileage are people getting on a 2wd v8 2007 forerunner? Or let's say what's the best I can expect?

If you use 100% gasoline for three tanks, and are light footed, and have OEM size tires, you will see 22-23mpg by the end of your third tank.
If you use 100% gasoline for three tanks, and are semi-light footed, and have OEM size tires, you will see 19-22mpg by the end of your third tank.
If you use standard gasoline, and are light footed, and have OEM size tires, you will see about 17-20mpg
If you use standard gasoline, and are not light footed, and have OEM size tires, you will see about 15-18mpg

Oh and thanks for your response.. I appreciate it... I am definitely not lightfooted... and you're right about the last paragraph and or even less.. I think my exhaust manifolds are leaking and rusted badly.. I did bring it up from 12.1 o 14.1by opening her up... But got a ticket in doing so for.. uh.. blowing out the carbon as my grandpa used to say.. she's all coked up...

    Oh.... California...
I am talking about Ethanol free fuel. 100% gasoline, not an ethanol blend.

    https://www.pure-gas.org/

Click on the CA button and it will show you all the stations in California that sell 100% gasoline (ethanol free)
If you are not near any of those, well, tough luck unless you wanna drive. Some of the Terribles stations in Nevada / Arizona have ethanol free, they are a bunch of old guys who race desert toys and prefer standard fuel.

Not sure how long you have had that vehicle, if its a new acquisition to you, i would STRONGLY suggest checking out the timing belt. If you are not certain about the age of the timing belt i would crack the plastic cover open and look at the timing belt. The engine is virtually bulletproof BUT the timing belt is a killer, a ticking time bomb waiting to blow. You definitely need to be sure that its good because it was not designed to last forever.
Also, yes the exhaust manifolds were known for cracking and leading to check engine lights and poor performance. I think the problem was the cats get stopped up, generating too much backpressure and heat, leading to the exhaust manifolds glowing and then cracking from the pressure. Might not be a bad idea to put new cats under it if you are not familiar with their condition. You might need manifolds and the crossover tube with new front cats.

Fuelly doesn’t break out 2WD vs 4WD but it is a helpful resource to see what other folks are getting. Habits, conditions, equipment do vary as well.

You’ll go a smidge further on 100% gas but there’s a cost penalty that you’ll need to do math to figure out if it’s worth it for you.
