So, it's taken a bit longer than expected, allow me to introduce you to "Sashimi", as she came from Japan and is a bit raw...
She arrived with 384K on the Odo and lots of evidence of grubby fingers in places they should never have been-3 of 4 sparkplug holes cross threaded beyond repair, compression of 120 on the one good hole, oil leaking from about every gasket, bell housing bolts missing, motor mounts with bolt but no nuts etc. she was a mess.
For suspension alllll the front bushings, ball joints needed replacing. Tie Rod ends, pitman arms and both front and rear pinion seals U-Joints shot.

Installed a rebuilt 22RE, along with new clutch, rebuilt Denso starter Alternator, rebuilt the steering box. Along with all the suspension mentioned above. Have since completed the first 500-mile oil change, no issues and motor is spinning great and getting smoother with every drive.
Main purpose is a light trail, fishing, chores and my 'round town daily driver. I may possible get a respray to the OE color as you can see the rear is a different white than the front, but not really important yet.

That’s amazing. I was about to congratulate you for saving the difference between restoring that magnificent example over buying one of these overpriced new trucks. Then I saw you have a ‘23.

Oh well, it’s still incredible. Wish I had the skills to do something like that.

Then you would be disappointed to know I have a 2007 SR5 that my son is driving as well...

The '86 is a project, goal is to keep as OE as possible, while using as a daily 'round town type truck-not a garage queen. The '23 is more of an overlanding rig, for longer distance flyfishing strikes from my homebase area.

Hard to beat the robust, simple utilitarian feel of Sashimi, she is a blast so far and has many years of adventure ahead

bought the thing already built SAS from a pickup, leaf sprung Marlin crawler 4.0-1 t-case gears 5.29 axle gears unknown brand lunchbox lockers... they work 22r-e w56 on 35s with super deep dish 15s
Beautiful paint! nice wheels and mud flaps too. Hope you scored it for a good deal considering the mechanical issues.
