    Hi all,

Looked at a 2006 V8 for sale at a dealer (not Toyota dealer) and I tried 4Low by simply turning the knob (at a stop) and it was just flashing the 4 low light and beeping. Later I tried the 4Low and also put the shifter in 3low but no change. I assume there is no trick sequence to put it in 4Low (of course dealer says there is but they dont know).

Is the 4low solenoid likely stuck and if so just for future reference does the repair require removal of the trans?

    Thanks

Beeping means you missed a step. V8 needs to have the center diff locked while moving first then you stop, select neutral at the trans and shift into low range.

No trick but there is a sequence.

One of the benefits a 4th Gen has is the ability to be in 4Low Unlocked.

I have a V8 as well. For 18yrs now... You cannot switch to 2WD but you certainty can run 4Lo w Center Diff Unlocked.

It beeps at you when you shift to 4Lo while NOT in neutral and not going less than around 3-5mph, Ideally you should be stopped.

    Just a couple
@J.A. is correct, you gain the option to USE the Center Diff Lock when in 4Lo, not otherwise...you can run in 4Lo unlocked in the V8s...a nifty feature when properly engaged/used!

Gotcha. I was thinking 2Low for whatever reason.
