How much are 2nd gen lovers paying for non-running 2nd gens with seriously faded paint but rust free body?

Why doesn't it run? Assume you don't know, which you don't, and neither do I, so you have to assume the worst.

No I don't have one for sale, just wondering what I'd be up against if one was to go on the market. Are people paying thousands for such things, like they might with a 3rd gen 5 speed?

Sight unseen I’d guess $1,000 or less from a very specific buyer you’d probably have to wait for.

Just an FYI, it not so much the "body rust" that greatly lowers the value of any T4R, it's the rust on the frame that DOES affect the value of a T4R since the frames are very prone to badly rusting in certain parts of the country, i.e. the rust belt/snow prone areas.

No frame rust in the desert though.

When you say you guess, what do you mean? Does that mean you have some knowledge of what 2nd gen people are willing to pay or are you truly just guessing? I see you don't have a 2nd gen.

I just popped onto Craigslist and saw a 2nd gen that technically starts but should be trailered asking for $2.7k and I don't really think people will be rushing to buy that.

Where I start truly just guessing is that I don't think you're going to get a lot for a busted 30-35 year-old SUV.

For someone looking for an off-road fixer-upper, there's a lot of options out there that start and while there might be a buyer really interested in 2nd gen 4Runner's ONLY (and willing to toss in an engine and maybe more) out there, the question becomes how long you're willing to wait for that person. I know this post isn't a formal listing but the unknown problems and minimal detail won't help build confidence from those perusing.

It isn't a pre-listing either. As I said, I'm not selling anything. I'm simply wondering what the general guestimated market value is of a non-running rust-free but sun-faded 4WD 2nd gen

Non-running and sun faded, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it unless you can do all the work yourself, then no more than 1k. Worse case scenario it needs a new engine or tranny which can easily run in the thousands.

Fair enough but I'm really wondering what YOU or another 2nd gen enthusiast would pay for it, not what I should pay for it.

I would offer a valuation after seeing it in person. This is based off of previous purchases when checking the vehicle out in person.

Offer an example of a Buick T Type I was able to get for less than 4k back in the early 2000's.

Checking it out in person can always give euphoric type experience if it connects.

It doesn't sound like there is much demand for vehicle like this. You wouldn't even pay $500 for a 2nd gen with wheels and no rust unless you checked it out?

I get not euphoric but mildly interested just knowing it exists and sits lonely and undriven for years. Based on this thread it doesn't sound like many people would want it if it went on the market for $1000. But I've seen far worse go for a lot more in online auctions so I'm not sure if I can conclude anything from responses here. I probably need to go search auction sites.

I got my 95 limited with no rust almost perfect paint and an almost perfect interior for $1200. With a blown head gasket.

All is good, sounds like you don't feel the mojo for this rig and need to move on to looking for something else.

To definitively answer your question, I would pay a max of $550 for a 1990-1995 4runner site unseen.

trlhiker literally said “I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it unless” so that’s what THEY would think, just with a caveat added for those more DIY capable.

I’m not sure if you can get any more usable information out of the community at this point. I highly doubt there’s a mythical 2nd gen cultist with $8,000 burning a hole in their pocket for a non-running example.

I'm not mojoing, just wondering what kind of demand there is for such a thing and it seems not very much. That means I might be able to get one like I described pretty cheap, if I knew where there was one. And I do.

I doubt it too, based on this thread. But I never thought there was. What I didn't know is if there are a bunch of $2000 cultists running around, and it it seems there aren't many of those either. I know I sure wouldn't pay that for a non-running 2nd gen, but I might for a 3rd. Personally I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred for a non-running 2nd
