5th gen 4Runners in scenic locations

Yup! Can't find my DSLR images right now, from my phone, lots of exploration in Anza but no time to run any trails out by Ocotillo Wells.

did hop over to Salton for a quick looksie, quick drive around the (almost) deserted Bombay and almost puked at the smell of rotting fish on the beaches around there! Got to see the famed Banana Museum along the way, Slab City and Salvation too.

 

Interesting to see, I stepped out a bit too far on the shore line, nearly lost my boot & the funk green funk pulled up! Yikes!!

 

Yeah, def a gumboot situation out there! Fortunately I recognized the quagmire from my hunting days so I was able to keep my shoes clean!

 

Pretty country. Funny part: The Gulf Coast area (NOLA, lower parts MS/AL/FL) all got snow past day or so. Some parts 8-10 inches. Not something that happens every year (obviously). But when I think of Canada, I always picture pristine snow covered mountains, forest, and etc. Canada = snow & cold (especially in winter time). But obviously that's just an image in my head.

 

Hah! I don’t blame you. You’re not wrong as a whole, but right now in BC in particular it’s like a perfect frozen fall, or early ass spring.

Planning on a trip up to Vancouver BC from California this summer. Hoping to jump on some ferries and see the Sunshine Coast, maybe some Orcas and travel inland a bit to visit Whistler. Any recommendations for routes and stops?

 

If you do plan to take a ferry, make a reservation ahead of time. Ferries up here in the summer are jam packed and if you don't have a reservation, you could be looking at a 2 or 3 sailing wait depending on which route you're taking.

 

Cool that sounds exciting!
100% you will see orcas, I saw a number of them on a half dozen ferries this summer, between islands south of the Sunshine Coast.

My #1 recommendation is to drive the Sea To Sky Highway (hwy99) between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish. On clear days the views of the ocean and islands to the west are truly unbelievable.

Yes! Sea to Sky is definitely on the list. Which ferry rides am I most likely to catch sight of a pod of Orcas? And any towns or islands you recommend I Airbnb at? Scenic locations / great places to eat? This would be late July early August.

Really? I found Idaho to be really beautiful. Especially the Salmon river area.

When I lived out west I did several trips to and around Idaho, in 4R and on motorcycle. It remains one of my favorite places. Go drive the Macgruder or the Lolo, or explore the Sawtooth or Bitterroot Mountains, or get up on Burnt Knob and tell me it's not beautiful...

LOL. I do the same thing, only with Nevada.

When the Navy first moved me to Nevada back in the 60s, the population was less than 500,000 people. It was wonderful. Now the population is over 3 million and still growing rapidly, mostly from Californians fleeing their state. Article in the Reno paper said that over 50,000 Californians moved to Nevada last year. Unfortunately they bring too many of their California values with them...changing Nevada to be more like what they left California for.
