Interested in an '06 SR5 with 160k miles - listed for $10k but hoping to talk down in price a bit upon going to see it in person. 1 owner, no accidents and a clean Carfax that shows care. Located in the Midwest. Looking for opinions on the frame. The listing says it was "reinforced", but does it look like it's just been painted? It's hard for me to tell if the frame is really solid or if there's some rust that's being hidden under a layer of paint. Does it look okay or should I run? Planning to poke around with a hammer and screwdriver if I go and see it.

I do not like the look of that patchwork.

There appears to be a perforation on the bottom of the rail in front of that plate. So how long has that plate been on there and how fast is that rot moving? Also, it looks like Woolwax has been applied to the frame rather than paint. I would not reject it out of hand but needs a good check by someone who know what they're looking for and I suspect it needs additional frame work in front of that existing plate. Would need to get it for a good price.

I'd run from that. Looks to be several shoddy attempts at frame repair and it's been freshly sprayed in an attempt to make it look better. There's way better 4th gen's out there around the 10k price-point.

Pass on this 4Runner and hold out for another one. Something seems off as if other issues are being covered up.

Looks like they painted something over the rust cancer. What is a 4runner worth if it has a frame full of cancer and patches? This is a serious question. Seems to me like it's worth the sum of it's mostly worn out parts. Yes, there is more life in the engine and trans but how much? Looks like a $2000 rig to me.

Right? Almost looks like the rail plate was glued on!! And what’s with those gussets between the crossmember and frame rail. I think I see a patch along the top of the frame rail as well!

    Too many red flags!

Never buy a vehicle if you’re uncertain of the frame. It’s akin to buying a house where you question the integrity of the foundation. The frame is the number one thing you should be certain of.

My truck came from a mountainous region of Arizona.. they sometimes get snow but not as often as rust states.. its not flaking g and it doesn't seem serious looks more like surface rust. Just wanted to get an opinion from. Y'all out there on my frame.
