ORP Upper Grille

Hello all. New to 4Runners with the recent purchase of our 2024 ORP. Yesterday I saw another ORP with a different upper grille than ours. Looks like the one in this pic I'm borrowing from a random Craigslist ad. I'm referring to the "honeycomb" design of upper grille behind the Toyota logo. We prefer this as it matches the larger lower grille. Our upper grille has the horizontal bars on either side of the badge. Is this a straightforward retrofit if I can find one? Thanks!

Our buddy @Borracho Loco above assumes you want the Pro grille look, but I see that you are asking about the upper grille only. If all you want is that upper grille piece without the horizontal bars, the answer is yes, you can purchase just the upper grille for the 2014 - 2019 4R, which will look just like the one in the photo you provided. There are multiple options for getting this upper grille:

-Dealer. Quite spendy.
-Aftermarket <<< Edit - this may not be available aftermarket, as most, if not all, probably sell their Pro conversion upper grille
-Used on Ebay or such.
-Someone on this forum that has done the Pro grille conversion, preferably near you, that no longer needs their upper grille they took off.
-Someone like me who has 2 sitting in storage from previous projects.

The only caveat to all this is if the mounting on your current upper grille is slightly different than the 2014 - 2019 as far as attachment points, and I cannot speak to that.

That would work if the OP wants to convert to the Pro look, but won't if he wants to retain the Toyota sombrero.

 

glwood54 is correct. I am not looking to do the Pro/heritage grille mod. I am interested in swapping out the upper grille behind the Toyota "sombrero". (Didn't know there was a nickname for that.) Thanks for the info!

 

I would suggest you post a WTB thread in your regional section or on the 5th Gen marketplace thread, stating your location.

 

I think on the older TRD Offroad this was the OEM grille (for example on my 2019).
But i don't know if these OEM parts just fit on the newer ones.

 

Just finished swapping out the 2024 grille for the older style in order to use Diode Dynamics SS6 auxiliary driving lights in that location.

First tried a used 2018 SR5 grille without the painted surround purchased from eBay intending to swap the painted piece over. However, the painted surround on a 2020+ grille will not mount directly to the older style grille as the mounting locations for the screws sit deeper on the 2020+.

You'll need to buy the complete piece if wanting to swap to the older style.

Radiator Grille Sub-Assembly 53101-35080-xx (*Note when searching for this part there's an additional letter and number in place of the xx that indicates the pre-painted surround color)

Yes.... for my '24 ORP I bought the complete YotaX grill kit but only ended up using the top section..... I ended up using an OEM lower section with it. Fits perfect. Easy install. I didn't like the lower cross section on the Yota X kit (because of the screw-on letters) and removed it in favor of the OEM part.....they are completely interchangeable. Well, that answers the question of whether the 2014 - 2019 upper grille piece will mount to a 2020+ upper grille surround...it won't, at least not without serious modification.

 

One could possibly use longer screws but it wasn't much more to purchase the entire piece from Toyota (via online parts order). The clips on the painted surround would still be too short.
