3 peak mountain

That's sort of what I was thinking, also. But, apparently I lack reading comprehension skills.

I ran the Toyo AT3 for 40,000 and had about 5/32 left. Switched over to Baja boss XL and have about 25,000 on those, have about 9/32 left, 16/32 when new.
The Toyo's were fine but the Mickeys do seem get around a little better. But hard to tell without having them side by side in the same type of snow conditions.
I back up a hill to get in my garage and half the time with snow on the ground with the Toyo's I would have to put it in 4-wheel drive. With the Mickey's I've never had too.

 

I was wondering when somebody would bring up the fact that true Snow and Ice (as opposed to Mud and Snow) rated tires with the three peak rating are actually the best in snow and ice conditions. Sure, good Mud and Snow tires can be run year-round and are pretty decent in deep snow, but they just can't match something like a Blizzak on hard pack and ice.

I run Blizzaks on everything I own, but they go on in December and come off in March. Running them in warmer temperatures just leads to very quickly wearing them out. And yes, we average 100" of snow each winter.

 

When I was living in VT, I ran dedicated snows on everything. Since graduating and moving back to MA, I've run Duratracs on everything (but still might go Baja Boss on the 4R) which are good *enough* for my trips to Maine in any weather. Other family members that go North more often than myself and have AWD compact SUVs or Subarus run dedicated snows.

 

Are Blizzaks not three-peak?

That's required in some jurisdictions to be used in place of chains.

 

We're talking about all terrains with 3pmsf ratings, not just M+S.

If you're referring to the difference between actual winter tires and 3PMSF tires, it was mentioned on the first page..

 

Nope. I was referring to the difference between Mud and Snow and Snow and Ice tires - both of which are available with the 3 peak rating.

 

I guess I never noticed winter tires having a 3 peak symbol.

I was referring to the difference between 3 peak all terrains and actual winter tires, but I guess I wasn't clear enough.
