Cooper Road & Trail?

Anyone running Cooper Road & Trails?

Got a quote of $778 for these from my local Toyota dealer. I went in looking for Rugged Treks, but those are almost 400 more and honestly I worry about the noise with those.

I commute about 350 miles a week and don't get to off-road much. I'm going to do a 2/1 lift eventually, but still looking at stock size or maybe 255/75/17.

This seems pretty mild compared to the Rugged Trek, but probably suits my needs better. Looks like a good snow tire too, if we get any in Southern New England this year. Last year was a bust.

I ditched the 20's on my Limited and bought a set of TRD Off Road wheels and put a set of these Cooper Road + Trail AT's on them. I've only got a few hundred miles on them, and I haven't driven them in the rain or snow yet. But they look really good (a huge improvement over the 20" tires and wheels on the Limited) and I'm not noticing any road noise. Handling seems good. I'm satisfied with them so far.

Mine were $836 ($776 plus $15/tire for the TPMS swap) from my local tire shop that I've used for years, so the price you've been quoted is a great price if that includes mount, balance and the TPMS swap.

 

Give them a try, reviews look good and they are at a reasonable price.

 

OP if you get these, or @LastRide once you get into any, let us know how they are on wet roads?

Yes they are.

 

Check the production date code molded into tire -see posts about DOT and date codes.
You want a tire produced only a few months before purchase. Not some old inventory.
Tread design has sipes and water escape channels, so probably as good as Dunlop factory tires

 

I'm very curious to hear any feedback if you bought the Road & Trails

 

Dropped my limited 20s for them, huge improvement in every way. Several of us here have been running them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Sorry I was going to tag you also, was going back through my message threads and you replied here before I could get you tagged lol.

 

We’ve had moderate to heavy rain here recently and they have handled it fine and it has switched to wintery mix and it didn’t falter. So I’m impressed so far.

 

I've got about 3k miles on mine so far, with no particularly crummy weather yet. No issues with the rain last night and this morning. Maybe we'll finally get some snow over here soon.

I can only say good things about these tires so far. They will pick up and throw gravel occasionally, though that's not unusual with a tread design like that.

 

Plenty of sipes, that is the thing Cooper is good about. We have ran Coopers for a long time, they have performed well. Most recent was 275-70-17 AT3 4S. Great in the winter, wet roads etc. On our last tire change I thought Pomps had the tires mentioned (Road and Trail), but the sales guy said "this store doesn't sell Coopers", so we went with the Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme, so far so good. Similar with the siping. Still have Coopers on other vehicles though. Good luck.

 

No, I dragged my feet and I still haven't gotten tires. I really should get on that before the snow flies, but I want to lift it first so I can move up a size.

Update time, we finally got our low temps and snow here in TN.

We have hit the teens and have gotten 6+ inches so far with some mixed slush from them putting brine on the road and ice patches.

And other than the increased noise from the tires on the snow, they continue to impress, no slippage even when I tried to make them break traction, that may be the limiteds awd system at its best fighting my attempts, but climbing a hill that had 6 full size 4x4 off in the ditch last year in this same weather I never even broke stride.

At this time this may be my new favorite tire for an all around do it all. Time will tell on longevity since they are still so new, and since I do not off-road other than light yard and gravel roads/dirt roads I am not concerned with damaged sidewalls as anothermember was noting from off road rock punctures. YMMV.

Good grief, man, you got more snow than we did!

About 2-3" here overnight. I haven't been out yet, aside from the driveway-shoveling task.

 

Mine was basically just getting home from work with lunch as that’s where me and the missus was when the snow started. Truly lot of fun for me, I love to drive in the snow. Last year was the prerunner Tacoma, this year the limited 4Runner, neither left me wanting in traction or confidence.

And I’m sorry for your back on shoveling. Not something I’ll be doing luckily.

 

Haha! I was thinking, just as I finished the job, "nothing shows you how out of shape you are like shoveling snow or carrying firewood!"

 

@Maximumdarkside Just curious, when these are on and under the weight of the truck, how tall do they sit? I was comparing specs and on paper anyway they are shorter than my other top options

Forgive my butting in... I'm curious, though. When you ask "how tall do they sit," where are you measuring?

 

I will get that info for you when it’s not snowy out. But just for clarification you are just wanting ground to tire top measurement?

 

If ground-to-tire-top is the measurement, I'll offer 30-1/2 inches.

Not at all @vthoky. The diameter is listed as 31.5". Toyo AT3s are 31.65, I think Wildpeaks are 31.7, even the stock Dunlops are shown as 31.7. I doubt less than a 1/4" is noticeable but if I'm just curious under normal tire pressure, how tall they are ground-to-top of the tire.

 

Thanks that saves me having to remember and gets HuskerRunner the info he needs quicker, I’ll still check mine just to give a comparison once I can when it’s not in the snow, unless that satisfies the need?
