What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Man, you lost 10 pounds per corner... and the butt dyno proves it!

 

Apex Overland, the shop that installed my skids, is offering a bmc for $340 including the plates. While I don’t need it yet, I’m still considering doing it.

 

Very happy with it. And just put up a huge sale post in the marketplace to try and clear out my growing trade pile including the takeoffs now.

 

This is the 2nd time. The rake of this windshield seems to catch rocks

 

It is a magnet, the week after I got mine replaced I thought it had happened again. I spoke to my insurance agent and they said 4Runners have one of the highest replacement rates.

 

That stinks!

 

That's the beancounters profit margins increasing due to thinner, poor quality glass.

 

Changed the rear differential fluid in both 4Runners and the Tacoma. Not sure when it had last been done in any of the vehicles, but all three had pretty clean fluid and minimal shavings on the drain plug. I used 3 of the Valvoline full synthetic SAE 75W-90 gear oil flex bags on each vehicle and had minimal seepage from each so I might buy one more bag and double check the fill on all 3 this week while I'm off on Thanksgiving break.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just installed mine.

 

Rotated the tires and noticed the front splash guard was torn up. Ripped it off the rest of the way and noticed a lot of rust on the frame hiding behind it. Make sure you spray behind them when rust proofing. Obviously I didn’t.
Also the amount of rust above the skid plates on the various brackets and radiator mounts is getting out of control. The shitty paint is just peeling off now.

Discovered that my fog light connector had somehow disengaged last night. Reconnected, all's well!

 

Drove it home from KPHL after trip to Detroit for Bruins vs Wings game! (Sat outside since Thursday morning, it forgave me rolled over 5600mi 1 year old) Made it home from KPHL under 1 hr!!!

I’m getting close to hitting 100k km (60k miles) on my 4Runner and looking at replacing the spark plugs. I’m looking for the OEM recommended ones which are DENSO SK16HR11.

Looking at pricing for these in Canada I’m seeing prices like $30/piece for these. Am I missing something? That would put me at almost $200 for the plugs and I must say these would be the most expensive plugs I’d ever bought lol, even my BMW was less.

Is there an alternate to these that can be used or is DENSO really the ones to get I listed?

A quick look at "Bezos world" shows those plugs at $10 and change each here.

 

Gave it a good cleaning and said nurturing things to it. Taking The Beast in Monday for the 5000 miles service, but really at a little over 4200 miles. Got places to go in December and want to get this done now.

 

Id rather do it sooner than later and not have them seize in the block. It’s a 2016 so the plugs have been in there for 8 years already.

NGK makes good stuff - which ones are the NGK equivalent would you know?

 

I guess I'm a bit....different. When I clean mine I say mean and degrading thing to it.

 

I changed the Front and Rear diff fluid and transfer case, all with OEM fluids. Not hard just a tedious job.

 

That fluid is Toyota liquid gold. I went with Redline, same viscosity as OEM and much much cheaper.

Definitely go with denso.... I am not a "stock parts only" guy but spark plugs and other ignition components are the exception. Simply, the wrong resistance is etc in the ignition system can cause crazy problems.
