I think what you're meaning to ask if if it's aluminum or steel. It is most likely steel and will need a good powdercoat job to keep from rusting.

That RPMFab rack looks nice, but I don't see much of a difference between that and a Prinsu/SSO. Simple flat cut sides and aluminum T-slot extruded bars.

I like it. It looks a lot like the SSO rack but way cheaper. I need to look this one up.

With a little work you could probably convert the front bolted brackets to bumpers so you don't have to drill. But, you run the risk of the rack swaying side to side up front. That's why I don't particularly like the racks made out of simple flat 1/4 inch aluminum- there's no inherent lateral stiffness.

I was thinking the same thing. An this one is noticeably shorter than the SSO. For $500 I may just have to bite the bullet and drill if I decide to even get a rack. Only reason I was going to get one was for a tent but if I go with the GFC tent I won't need a rack. Decisions, decisions.

That GFC is the business. With a newborn I'm not getting out nearly enough to justify a roof tent, but if I was: that would absolutely be the one I'd get.

I hear ya, I have two in college. "Dad...can I have some money?"... It takes me FOREVER to save money for mods. An I am still not sure if I want/need a RTT. Time will tell.

I'm on an Arizona 4runners group on Facebook and per the owner of RPM Fab, they DO NOT require drilling on their end. His name is Dan Rycroft if you get onto the group and want to reach out to him directly. They're a great looking rack and know several people that use the rack. I like the low profile look as well.

Looks like another group buy is live! Might be better/quicker to contact through instagram. $750 shipped, $40 for each extra crossbar and $80 for extra trays. Appears that hood rack and ladder are also eligible for reduced group prices. Good luck!

I will be ordering this time around. I have not been able to get on here to provide a proper update in regards to the RCR4WD rack but several pieces were bent while in transit. Additionally, the "powder coating" or spray paint are really bad and came off. Also, there are several holes that don't match up. I put the rack on by myself for a test fit and though I got it on, I wouldn't recommend it. Seems sturdy enough, just too many defects. Raul is a nice enough guy and is willing to help with providing some new pieces, but I'm not playing this game. I had already waiting 2 months and now it looks like he is saying it could be another month or so until he ships. Just not worth it.

I am interested in a Ladder, to go with my Ecotechne Rack that I already have on my roof. I emailed rorck_t4r yesterday but have not heard back from them yet. Is that who I deal with?

Wow, those pieces look rough! It's hard to see what came from manufacturing vs shipping. Either way it will take a lot of rework to get it functioning as intended. Some of the EcoTechne pieces were imperfect too, but nothing was beat up or prevented from lining up. However I think part of the reason is that a lot of the holes/connections are oversized to allow slop.

Felipe (Rorck) is sort of infamous for being hard to get ahold of. He will get everything settled, more or less, but it can be frustrating when communicating takes days between messages. Just keep trying and be patient.

After all of that, I'm going with the RPMFAB roof rack. Have a few buddies with them and they like their racks but also its right down the street for me and I can get local pick up. They also are aluminum racks and include 10 crossbars with a cut out 40" LED wind deflector option. Really wanted to go with the Ecotechne rack but thought about it again and was not really wanting to put in all the extra work for issues.

Is this the one you are referring to? I have been waiting for someone to try it and according to the reply I received.....Drilling is ONLY an option for the 3rd set of stock location......Please update us once you get yours.....Much appreciated....

    http://rpmfab.com/Gen-5-Toyota-4Runner-Aluminum-Roof-Rack_p_364.html
GEN 5 TOYOTA 4RUNNER ROOF RACK
The RPMFAB rack has laser cut side rails constructed of 1/4" 5052 aluminum plate. These rails have 3 adjustable mounting feet per side that will allow you to bolt the rack into the 2 factory mounting locations and one mounting foot in the front which we now offer as a no drill option or drill option to work with your needs or comfort level. Each kit comes with hardware for the no drill option or nutsert drilling option. The mounting feet allow for fine tuning adjustments up or down, forward or back, and left to right.
The crossbars are manufactured from a 1" x 2" aluminum extrusion T-slot channel. (10) T-Slot cross-members are included. (9) 1x2 and (1) 1x1 for the rear to clear the Spoiler. This allows for multiple tie down options, cargo security, and the addition of accessories such as tool mounts or lighting. T-Slot Mounting parts are readily available due to its wide range of usage in manufacturing. Our RPMFAB Roof rack can be ordered in multiple color configurations. All mounting hardware is grade 8 Zinc coated for a long rust-free life.
Weight capacity of the racks varies based on the number of crossbars used and their configuration.

Correct, this is the one I'm getting and NO... You don't have to drill at all. They recently released the no drill option. It will be here before Christmas!

That's probably the way to go, with support right down the street it will be right the first time or immediately after! I like my rack but I wish it were more straightforward for other folks.

I went to RPM website and was looking at the roof rack. I then stated looking at their rear bumper. I was about to put in an order for the Ecotechne ladder, but now I'm gettin really interested in RPM's rear bumper that comes with a ladder integrate into it! Does anyone have any input on RPM's bumper?

I dont, BUT... call them and ask for Don Rycroft Sr. He owns the company and is big in the Arizona 4runners group here. He also helped me out directly and was great. Very knowledgeable and there to help.

Thanks! Their rear bumper looks really good and the price is a good bit lower than C4 Fab, CBI, SSO and Relentless!
