I've got a new SR5 and I notice when I enter/exit the truck I'm really squishing the raised part of the seat bottom on the left side.

In my past Tacoma's, this part of the seat cushion would start to collapse after a couple years from repeated abrasion/weight. You can see it if you look at used Tacoma's.

Those of you with running boards or steps-- can you put a foot on it to support your weight while exiting so you don't have to slide over the "hump"?

I'd like to avoid the seat foam collapsing over time if possible.

I also have a 2018 model and I've also thought the same thing as I "slide" over that section of the seat. I do have running boards but I do not or haven't yet really made it a point to "lift" myself up over that part of the seat. I don't know I guess it doesn't really feel natural to me to do that. Whatever for me I guess the seat won't really be that big of a deal I typically keep my vehicles 8-10 years and in that time expect that type of break-in or wearing here and there. The running boards will support me I just haven't climbed in like that yet.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was wondering- if you actually even use the step if you have them. Figured it might not be a natural action.

My Tacoma seat showed "exit-fatigue" after just 3 years. Kinda wanted to prevent it in my Runner if possible.

I didn't know these seats were available for my new 4runner. How much do these generally cost and are they completely compatible for the runner? This site is surely providing me with info and as well as possible changes over time. Looks like I will be a user not a provider-so keep it up. thanks,

I have lived the same thing. And, like you, wanted to avoid the bolster break down on my 4Runner if possible. I have actually had three sets of running boards/steps on my 4Runner. I settled on the Toyota Predator steps because I can use them easily to get in and out of the driver's seat. I felt the N-fab step was a bit too far forward for me. The Toyota Predator step is almost perfect. I had the same setup on my Tacoma and I found the steps so useful that I bought a set for my 4Runner when they finally came out. I recommend the Predator steps based on the concerns you expressed in your post.

Thanks for the info. Which step is higher- the predator or the n-fab? I'd like to get the one that keeps the most ground clearance. But yeah, many reports of the n-fab being too far forward.

I only had the N-fab steps for a week or so and that was over a year ago, but my memory is that they are pretty close in terms of ground clearance. Possibly the N-fab sits a little bit higher but I can’t remember for sure. If you really want a step to save your seats and help with entry and exit, the Predators are great. If you want ground clearance for going off road, they do sacrifice some clearance. Depends on your needs.

I like the hoop step style because I find it works better as a step for getting in and out. The lower placement of the step actually works for me. Running boards (flat style) would still give you a step and more ground clearance, but at nearly cab height they may not provide the same kind of function as a step. If you can find a set of Predators or any other style installed at your local dealer to try out that would be a safe bet. That’s what I did before ordering. Of course there are always sliders if you’re really going to go off road.

Thanks. I'll check out the trucks at the dealer and see if they have any with steps installed.

I will add I have the Toyota installed running boards and their rather narrow not really offering much space to step onto when entering or exiting the vehicle. I don't really care about clearance because mine hasn't seen anymore than a dirt road yet and most likely won't. For functionality however they probably could be a few inches wider.

I went with the RSG angled with top plate because they tuck up nicely, but there flats are nice also. My wife and i both use them to get in and out, but i will say the flat ones are more suited, or more comfortable for a step.
