i have a brand new 4runner. And I just noticed this mod sticker on the door. Any idea why this would be there before I've ever had it in to a dealer?

I have the same thing on my new '19. I just assumed they all get it by default at the factory since they don't know what ones get port installed options like running boards and the like?

I have one too but I’d have to look at it to see what it says. I think any port added options that add weight to the vehicle take away from the GVWR and that’s what that sticker is meant to represent.

So if they install running boards at port they'd put a new sticker on noting the reduced capacity? Seems like that would be the time to place the 1st sticker. Hmm...

Skid plate, and exhaust tip perhaps? I can't think of anything else that woulda been a 20lb add-on. Maybe luggage rack cross-bars?

No idea what it could have been. Stock skid plates, no exhaust tip, no rear cargo slide deck, no moon roof/sun roof. Only the cross bars and running boards.

I didn’t want an add on stuff cause I knew I was just going to be doing my own thing to it and adding stuff I wanted

Now there is a safety recall on that same sticker. I got mine in the mail this past week. You don't have to go to the dealer though, the sticker is included in the recall letter. You just put it over the old one. Mine was not in the 1% allowed error rate. It may not involve all vehicles.

Just a standard one page safety recall. The sticker looks exactly like the on pictured above but the weights will be different.

I think everyone should have this sticker so we can calculate how much weight we can carry. Here's the numbers I shared in a previous post-

It’s probably standard protocol. Mine has it for the N-Fab steps they installed at dealership prior to delivery. Don’t remember the added weight exactly, but it was around 30 lbs total?

What's curious is why bother with that sticker if nothing changed?

Maybe they put one on every vehicle? Has that been confirmed? Those that have no port mods show zero change?

    Mine shows 100 lbs.
    880-100lbs=780
    780/5= 156 lbs

I’m gonna tell all my friends to go on a diet if they want to get in my truck

What add ons you have? Roof rack + sliding cargo deck + predator steps?

This is my sticker with just roof rack-
    880-56.

it came from the dealer with predator steps, hitch ball mount, TRD pro mats, blackout emblem overlays, cargo cover, hood protector and obviously the TRD pro package (roof rack, skid plate, Fox suspensions etc…)
Not sure if all of these make up the 100lbs from the yellow mods sticker

I have since sold the predator steps and TRD roof rack and replaced with Westcott angled sliders and a Gobi stealth rack. So I probably added even more weight.
I also sold the spare and put a TRD wheel with a matching spare tire.

anyone knows how much the TRD rack and predator steps weight?
From the post above by @kmeeg I’m guessing the rack is 56 lbs?

The real mind fuck is they don't calculate the weight of the sticker in the equation, so it's always wrong. To be accurate you need to deduct 0.17 oz from that listed weight reduction number. Safety first.

My sticker exists but has no weight reductions. I guess this is what it looks like when no Portal changes were made that limit load carrying capacity. It is odd to have a sticker saying load carrying capacity is reduced, but then saying the dealer must consult the dealer portal to set? I have no port modifications. FMVSS 110 is a Dept of Transportation test procedure for tire and wheel weight limits.

Nah, the real mind fuck is that for a vehicle with a listed curb weight of 4750 and a GVWR of 6300lb, the payload is nowhere near what GVWR-curb weight suggests it should be (you know, the way every other manufacturer calculates payload for the sticker?).

I mean, put four adult men in a TRD Pro and you're at the limit according to the sticker (ok, to be fair, maybe it's 5). Heck, some guys have so much armor they can barely put two people in the rig without being "overweight".

No kids or pets, so I took the back seats out and loaded it down with armor and whatever stupid upgrades I could think of. Now sitting at 5900 lbs. We don't need no stinking stickers...

Sooo this past weekend did about 500Km with 6 adults, 1 child, roof racks, bike racks, and some luggage in my Limited. We were well over the 1,151Lbs limit. Do I need to worry about anything? All seems to work fine.

I think in the Warranty and Maintenance Guide that would fall under the category of “Special Operating Conditions.” Better change your oil! Haha.

How did the adult in the third row feel after all that time?!

LOL...surprisingly they had no complaints. Said better than my wife's Santa FE XL with 3rd row seating. Rear passengers were tighter as still have a full child seat for my son. Only complaint was the 4 Runner has no 3rd row climate controls nor vents so had to open the tail gate window for them a bit. My wife's 11 year old Santa Fe XL has cooling, heating, vents and controls for the 3rd row. I guess we can have it all in the 4 Runner.
