Is there a rear ladder thread?

Is there a rear ladder thread where it is simply detailed owner photos of rear ladders on 4Runners? (personally preferably TRD Pros, but we are all the same)

 

Yeah, it's labeled under "worthless shit to put on your 4Runner". Right before raptor lights. Prove me wrong. Seriously, I want to see pictures of people actually using these things as ladders. What are you putting on your roof that can't be reached from the rear bumper, rear tire, or slider/side step?

It’s a free country and what people choose to do with their vehicle is their business. I put items on my rack that would be more efficiently accessible from the back with the use of a ladder and not from one side or the other. Some people aren’t agile enough to use just the bumper. But regardless of what people do or don’t use it for, if they want it so be it. What is worthless are comments on threads that provide no meaningful value. OP asked if there is a ladder thread not whether or not you liked him and his personal choices.

You should be aware that not all ladders are compatible with the TRD Pro rack. Gobi makes one that is.

 

It's also a free country for me to opine that it's worthless and dumb. It has nothing to do with whether or not I like him. He's probably a fine individual, and if he were my friend I would advise him to not put worthless shit on his 4Runner. And, here's the thing, he's going to do what he wants to do anyway, and I wouldn't think any less of him. If you have a gobi and you stand on top while ratcheting stuff down or someone is handing you stuff that ladder is really damn useful and you have no idea what you're talking about and sound really stupid.

I see people saying that they don't need to stand on top. No you don't but it's a lot faster, easier, and you can secure the load much better so it's safer...to get up there with a ladder.

If you're saying that ladders just to have a ladder you don't use is dumb, then that goes without say.

 

Amen! As a former Army Ranger who suffered injuries during my service time using my ladder helps me significantly. Pay no attention to individuals that always stir the pot and provide zero substance to this forum. I choose to take high road because karma will always come back to those certain individuals.

I am considering one just as a cheaper alternative to a metal bumper, which currently seems like the only sensible way to mount a jerry can with more than 1 gallon (doing a lot of dune bashing, everything mounted on the side, like how ppl often mount their tanks over rear windows, high above the ground, creates an unnecessary risk of flipping over).

I went with the Gobi, and it works with a wide variety of racks (I've had racks by Victory 4x4 and Sherpa), and it is minimal, so it doesn't block much of your rear view. I've lived out of my truck in two countries and many states since I bought it, and the ladder has been handy, for sure. Sometimes I've had the roof rack very loaded with stuff and sometimes (like currently), very little. If it's something you will use, go for it and ignore the haters. An unexpected benefit of the ladder is making it a breeze to wash the roof at a self-service car wash. No wet clothes from trying to climb up awkwardly to clean under the roof rack.

the ladder at least is less offensive than the raptor lights, those are rather useless.

 

I have one on my 4Runner and have to confess that it is a little cringy to look at most of the time. That said, I DO actually use it a fair bit for putting crap on top of the truck. In my case, it is especially useful in 2 cases; 1) (less frequent) securing something to the rack near the middle. There is just not a great way to get to that spot and 2) securing my SUPS to the rack. Definitely a good use case for it. My wife is small and it makes it easier for her to secure them also.

I went with a C4 and it is really good quality.

 

I'll admit that last month, when I was just out of shoulder/biceps surgery and I was washing the roof of the 4Runner, standing on the back tire with one arm immobilized, it would've been easier with some kind of step. It definitely would NOT have been a little ladder though. I genuinely don't understand how anyone gets a shoe, over size 4, on that first step and how they "climb" that little ladder carrying gear. To get to the roof, it seems that anyone over 5'8" only needs one step, and anyone over 4'6" would need two... so why FIVE steps? I could see some type of bolt-on step, but a 1/3 scale ladder?

There's a bit of a paradox here - if someone needs a 5-step ladder to climb onto the roof rack... they probably should NOT be standing on the roof rack. Seriously.

100% correct. I just picked up a new to me 2015 and removed the ladder that came with it....platform is next. Quick plug, if anyone is in the Suffolk, VA area I will be posting it up for sale this weekend. Given what those platforms can hold I can see how useful an always accessible ladder can be. This just isn't a need we have at this time so it's all coming off. I can see it being well worth it @Trail Addict if you are hauling on the roof!!
