Day 2. We did Kane Spring Ranch Road and connected to Hurrah Pass. Beautiful.

 

I’m the OP. What’s the difficulty rating of White Rim. We are having so much fun here. Damn it’s so beautiful and meeting some great people on the trails.

 

I’m the OP. We are staying at Worldmark by Wyndham resorts. Perfectly located and has a full kitchen.

 

Utah in general was more expensive than I expected. I thought food, gas, etc was going to be cheaper than here in MA.

 

I going to be out there in a couple of weeks. I would appreciate it if you could provide me the trails you think I should not miss.

Are these the 4x4 trails you were mentioning or are there others? If we enter the park the back way without tickets/passes can they fine you?

 

Yes sir! As for entry tickets, you could be asked to pay if they happened to check you on the way out. However, I've been in the back way 3 or 4 times now and have never been stopped on the way out.

 

We did Kane pass and connected to Hirrah pass. So beautiful. Always remember to fill your tank before hitting the trail. Kane pass and hurrah are one way. People think there is an end to the trail but there isn’t. You go out the way you came in. Came across a jeep that ran out of gas. We did Gemini Bridge on Tuesday. That was beautiful as well. I’m from the Midwest and utahs classification of Easy or Moderate is totally different from the Midwest. On Hurrah pass we came to a spot with huge rocks and once you cleared that you had to navigate on slate rock sideways on a mountain. Several time I had to get out and fill some voids with rocks or build a little bridge to get over a boulder. My rig is lifted and I run 33s and I thought it was tough. But totally manageable. Before we left I put in new bump stops over the OEM. I’m so so so glad I did.

The Willow Springs entrance is rated a 5? I wouldn't have guessed it. I was driving my Jeep at the time but I don't remember anything between Hwy 191 and the main road in Arches that I couldn't have done in 2WD. Some sand and rocks but not anything substantial. Unless there's storm damage or mud (and the Moab area has been hit with considerable flash flooding) any stock 4R should be able handle the Willow Springs entrance without any problems. About a mile before you get to the Arches main road there's a left turn that you can make that takes you north to Eye of the Whale and Tower Arch. This trail can definitely have some deep sand. There's also a slick rock dome about 12ft high that you need to climb that's pretty steep. Between Tower Arch and the Salt Valley road there some slick rock that would be better to tackle in low range. I'd believe that this portion of the trail could be rated a 5, however, this is a bonus trail and doesn't need to be traveled to get into the park.

The Salt Valley Road entrance (the easiest route) is a good graded road. I traveled that last about 2 years ago in my Subaru Outback. Back then any passenger car could have handled this road. Unless it's washed out or muddy because of the recent flooding this should be a cake walk in a 4R.

I'd check with the Moab visitors center for updates on these roads following the recent storms.

 

It’s approximately 75/mi. I say 7-8/hrs..with stops for the park, lunch, oohs and ahhs. Live near by so we winter camp west of Moab a lot and use long canyon as a none paved route back to town for gas/supplies!

edit: also what wheels/tires and suspension are you running?

 

The West is the BEST!

 

Wheels are the factory snowflakes. I like them and see no need to get aftermarkets. Tires are Falken Wildepeaks, 275's, load C and bottom of the barrel Dobinson suspension. It isn't fancy, but it does the job. And it's an SR5. It doesn't have a locker.

 

goes to show, for 90% of trails out there fairly basic mods and close to stock probably does best.

 

what kind of tires/size do you run on your rig

 

Toyo AT3s 285/70/17. Love them. I’ve put about 40k on them and easily have 30 more

 

What’s the lowest pressure you’ve aired down so far on these tires? (Not necessarily in Moab)

Since the trd wheels are technically too narrow for this size, are you not “afraid” of popping a bead ?

i know a lot of people run this tire size/wheel combo and I’m sure it’s fine on the road, but I’ve always wondered what’s the lowest psi you can go without popping a bead vs a wheel that has the proper rim width

Day 4. We just did Arches. Got to try my new awning

 

15 psi. Never had a reason to go lower. Never had an issue. Ran them at 15psi for 5 hours yesterday while in Moab.

 

Looking at the pics, your 4Runner would have zero problems at all
