How fast do you drive?

I know it regularly pisses off other drivers, but I drive 62 - 66 mph on average. That's on highways. Don't worry, I never get in the far left lane.

Sure, the speed limit might be 70 or 75 (or 80 in the Austin area), but I'm not important enough to speed just to get to my destination. Plus my MPG's drops significantly when I drive faster than 70mph. I've tested it many times, and 66MPH seems to be the sweet spot when I'm commuting to/from work on the local highways in the DFW Metroplex.

It gets me roughly 20 - 21.9MPG for the TANK average. Sure, I could get to work (or home) faster, but I'd rather spend less on gas and not risk a speeding ticket, or worse....

 

Sure. But I also mentioned you have miles of visibility with no other cars around. (Including law enforcement)

I get it bro. Sometimes you want to test the limits. "For science!" Even if it is stupid and/or highly dangerous.

I've done it countless times. I may or may not have hit the top speed on my 1995 Madza RX-7 when I drove it through the Florida Panhandle not long after I bought it. At the time, a big portion of the panhandle highway was "air patrolled", so you never saw a cop. I never saw a plane/helicopter either.

For the record, the Rx-7 drove very smooth at 155MPH.

 

Good thing there's a right lane. Even here in RI I normally stick to the right lane.

Why would I have done that?

 

As much as I like driving fast, I don't know if I'd go that fast in a 4Runner. Plus, my current tires limit me to 99 MPH.

 

The Flux Capacitor in my 4Runner limits me to 87MPH. If I go any faster, I'll wind up back in 1955.

 

Sway bars still on, front sway bar bushing were replaced last year, but they look weird to me. Will post a pic.
The KYBs were the ones rock auto pulls up when this vehicle is punched into their system, front ones are the gas a just coil over complete unit (which they claim is their performance option) and the rear shocks are the G-force line. So seeme to me they should be right for this vehicle.. not sure how i would have any idea about the valving unfortunately... rear springs are perhaps original.. is there a measurement i can take to see if theyre worn out?

Anyways heres a pic or the front sway bar bushings.. links and balljoints etc all seem tight.

 

It looks to me like rhe sway bar isnt sitting in the bushings just right as there appears to be a slight gap at the front.. maybe this isnt a concern..i dont get any "clunks" when driving indicating there is any issue..

I can tell the front springs are quite new by their appearance, past owner gave me a bunch of receipts so seen his rock auto order for those parts.. i do think i should get new rear springs and an alignment and see if there is any difference in ride quality. Any suggestions on rear springs?

 

Sway bars, all steering components, all suspension components. Check for play in the connections when turning the wheel or bouncing the truck. It's a 2 man job.

 

Down here in Austin other's try to do it in 55 zones. Lol. And be the first ones stopped at the light you met them at. And also be the first ones whining about getting low mpgs. Lmao.

I barely even breathe on my pedal when the light turns green. But my city average is 19 now. I take streets with lower speed limits just to drive whatever speed limit it may be and be happy

 

Going to replace the rear coils and struts.. looks at bilstien 5100s abd 4600's, it says the 5100's will add .5" lift. Should i only be looking at the 4600's in this case? Front is stock ride height.

I may be reading wrong, looks like rock auto claims they fit vehicles with .5-2.5 rear lift... does that mean they wont fit a non lifted vehicle?

Thanks Thomas, Im just getting rears at the moment, i went on their website and seen that the adjustment was from 0-2.5" and not .5-2.5 as rock auto claims. So put the order through. All is good... I think.

 

The 5100 rear shocks with new moog springs offer a somewhat better ride than the kyb g-force and oem springs.. i do wish i spent a bit more and got heavier springs though.. when i load the back up with stuff the ride gets crappier..more bouncy, wandery and light steering when hitting bumps. The brake dive from the front gas-a-just kyb is bad as well. I wouldnt recommend those to anyone.
