Got the car 300 miles ago, most of it highway. Cruise control set 75 seem like a happy place for the truck between speed and fuel econ.

jeez! I assumed 4runner doesn't go that fast, have never really tried it past ~89 mph.

That was stock suspension and stock size 265/70R17 tires. IMO these are pretty impressive machines for what it is as long as you don't lift them too high and make them too heavy.

This, and If you're on a fairly short trip, you really don't save much time either.

Where do you live? Visit Montana or New Mexico and you will have no choice but to do 90 mph for hours lol

I have found the best fuel mileage is cruising around 45-55, part throttle in overdrive, i can see as high as 26-28mpg instant fuel mileage
When running the highway i run about 70, staying around 70 gets me about 19-20
Speeding up to 7-8mph over the limit around 77-78 gets me about 15-16

Are you literally going 80 MPH at 19 PSI, and taking your hands off the wheel to take pics?! You have a death wish. And why not run everything at 19 PSI, does the steering get squirrely at 19 PSI in the front so you bump it to 24 up there?

I am running 305/50-20 General ATX and this is what pressure is required to allow the face of the tire to run flat on the ground.
The front is 24psi because of the extra front weight bias due to the engine
The rear is 19-20psi because of how much lighter the rear is, it only requires 20psi to keep the tire running flat on the ground
I have been running combos like this for 10+ years and posted about it many times and much like you, people swear it cant be done simply because the books tell you the tires should be at 40psi.
I have 105,000 miles on an identical set of tires on my daily driver and the tire pressures are 26-22 on it i believe.
No they are not squirrely, they are quite planted and this is how i drive daily and the tires are fine and the sidewalls are not hot. In fact, i have driven from Ensenada Mexico to Miami and back to Mississippi pretty much non stop over the course of 7 days without worry on the 4runner with 105,000 miles.

2004 v8 Limited, don't do it often but if i get up to 80 for some reason it still feels super smooth and planted. I do have a very new Dobinsons IMS suspension installed, however.

Tire pressure should always be measured cold. With stock size and load range, you should be at 32 cold.

That's not the governor, that's reality.

This sounds like it could be your issue. It sounds like your dampers aren't damping.

34 cold is fine. I'm just saying that it should be measured cold.

I don't know anything about that KYB setup. But, shocks with lousy damping certainly won't help with handling on a vehicle that tends to feel less than sporty to begin with.

I've had mine over 100 MPH a few times, and hit 90+ plenty, even on oversized tires. It's not exactly sports car handling, but it shouldn't be scary to pass someone.

I'm in Rhode Island, the fastest speed limit we have is 65, most are 60 or below. I believe New Hampshire and Maine have 70 mph speed limits in certain areas.

If I lived in an area that the average speed was 90 mph, I wouldn't have bought the 4Runner.

in south Florida when you cross north of West Palm Beach toward Jupiter. The highway opens to 5-6 lanes and left lane cruising speed is easily 85 and up.

Speed limit. Rarely more than 1-2 over. Lots of tickets as a teen, learned my lesson.

My 2024 TRD Pro handles like an under powered boat. Just kinda floats around on the interstate. But I’m also coming from a sporty small car, so my opinion is subjective.

    Nah it’s the governor lol.
You can tell when it kicks in

Can easily cruise at 112 but any faster and the governor kicks you back down

That would be true if your goal is just to avoid bottoming out on a fire road. However, as the OP's goal is to reduce brake dive and body roll on pavement, 700# springs are more appropriate. 4th gen with the iron block V8 is quite heavy. Stock they weigh as much as a modded Tacoma. The standard spring included in Elka coilovers for 4th & 5th gen is 700#, for example.

Yes the governor is in place because some trims come with S-rated tires.

Tx panhandle. You’ll encounter two lane highways with miles of visibility. Flat as could be. You won’t see other cars for hours. No tree line to hide potential hazards, just low cut grass fields.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Maybe he was trying to rush off to jail?

In Texas, driving over 100 mph is illegal and can be considered a misdemeanor criminal offense. Drivers who exceed the speed limit can be charged with unsafe speed and reckless driving. Reckless driving is defined as driving in a way that shows a "wanton or willful disregard" for the safety of others or their property.

Penalties for driving over 100 mph can include:

    • Fines: Up to $2,000

    • Jail time: 3 days to 180 days

    • License suspension: The Texas Department of Public Safety can suspend a driver's license if they accumulate too many points from moving violations. Speeding tickets can add 2 or 3 points to a driver's record, and getting cited for going more than 25 mph over the limit may result in an automatic 30-day suspension.

    • Additional consequences: Certain professions, such as commercial truck drivers or individuals with jobs that require a clean driving record, may face additional consequences due to a speeding ticket, such as losing employment opportunities or facing limitations in job prospects.

I'm guessing that's the law in most if not all of the states!!

I know in some states going 25 mph over the speed limit get you a trip to jail!
