2019 TRD Pro Fox Suspension and spacer lift?

Hi there I'm new to this forum and I did a search but didn'f find any answers. So I recently ordered a 2019 TRD Pro and I know they come with aftermarket FOX suspension. I'm wanting to do a 3" lift like whats on my Tacoma but instead of buying all new suspension would it be a good idea to use a spacer lift to still utilize the FOX suspension it comes with? On my 2006 Tacoma I replaced everything with a full 3" suspension lift and I love it. I guess what I'm trying to say is can I save money and utilize the FOX suspension with a simple 2-3" spacer lift and still have a smooth ride? Thanks in advance!

 

I don't know the answer to your question but if you end up replacing the Fox stuff, I may be interested in buying it for the right price.

 

you spent all that money on your ride bud. keep it as is until the fox get squishy. the pro is absolutely more than capable with the already tuned suspension. my 2c

 

I absolutely would not have started with the Pro if this was my plan. Seems like a waste.

 

Agreed. If you plan to lift, get an SR5 premium and do an aftermarket suspension lift. The difference in price between an SR5 and Pro will more than pay for your lift.

The only case where this scenario wouldn't work is if you absolutely had to have a truck in voodoo blue.

I wouldn’t go ripping out the suspension you just paid all that $$$$ for, drive it like it is, then decide if you need to change anything. You may be surprised with what you have.

i don't know much about the 3" lifts but i think you can do anything as long as you have $$$ to put in it to do it right

There's a lot of people in here saying what they heard that one time from that one guy.

A simple solution if you're wanting a lift and want to keep the Fox suspension is a spacer lift. Look into Toytec as I have their spacer lift for the Pro Bilstein shocks. I've had the lift for three years and it's been perfect. It's advertised as a 2" but I fit 285 tires without issue. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

 

Thats what I am looking at is a 2" lift is all. I just want to be able to fit 285's under my truck without any major rubbing issues. No I dont believe the 2019 TRD Pros come lifted with the aftermarket Fox shocks. I still believe its stock height. Another big issue is I want to park the 4Runner in my residential garage. If I cannot park it in the garage I will no lift it. Plus the 2019 Pros come with different more stout roof racks that seem to be higher then previous years so that can be an issue as well. PVT Pablo, is yours a 2" lift all around?

 

You are correct that the Pro's are the exact same height as the regular 4Runners. I've seen many people claim 1" over the other trim levels but I've never seen that in any official capacity. Mine is lifted 2" all around and with the 285's sits at the roofline about 3" over stock (lift, tires). I would measure your garage height to see if you can clear the door. I know mine was closeish.

 

Not sure about the '18 but the Toyota brochure says the '19 does ride higher. I think it was an inch.

Mechanically, the TRD Pro gets a 1-inch lift and wheel travel over standard models. The biggest change is upgraded, 2.5-inch Fox shocks with 46 mm pistons. They pack seven bypass zones in the front and eleven in the rear, for better controlled damping over the old units. The new 4Runner TRD Pro also gets an inch wider track than standard 4Runners. Finally, the new TRD Pro runs on Nitto Terra Grappler All-Terrain tires.

Okay so if the Pro does come 1" higher then the rest I need to be careful. Looks like Toytec offers a 2" all-around lift that will work with my Fox shocks. Either that or a 1" level kit in just the front. I'd like to go with the 2" lift and put on some 285's. My 4Runner gets delivered early next week so I'll have to measure it from top to bottom including the new bulkier roof rack. I''m thinking the new roof rack might give me clearance issues to fit it in my garage after that 2" lift with 285's but we shall see I guess. Thanks for the help everyone and I plan on visiting the site quite often cause I already have a bunch of other mods I bought for the truck.

I thought the remodel was being done on the 2021 models?

 

Do you run into potential vibe issues with lifting the 4runners as you do with the Tacoma's?

For those of us that aren't mechanically inclined and work on our own trucks, are we opening a can of worms when lifting 4runners? Or is it not as bad as it is with Tacoma's?

 

Well that's an improvement over the previous one that was truly just an appearance package. Still is not worth the money IMO

 

yeah, I quelled my yearning for a Pro after I realized the roof rack meant it wouldn’t fit in some of the big city parking garages I have to use from time to time in Toronto. No problem with the ORP though, perfect. Does the off road stuff I need to do without a lift.

 

Those dual cab Tacoma’s have a 2 piece driveshaft at the back that needs to have the right angles to not vibrate. Generally, up to 2 1/2” can be ok. I raised mine 2” with no problem. You won’t have that same problem on a 4 Runner. But then, you usually don’t see the same extreme lifts on 4 Runners as you do on Tacoma’s.

 

Just took delivery of my ‘19 TRD PRO last Tuesday (replacing a heavily modified Jeep). So far, so good for a stock vehicle! Drove it out to my ranch Friday (2hrs from Dallas) and the highway drive was GREAT, especially compared to the Jeep (I know/ shocker). Off road, I was very, very pleased as well.
Prior to taking possession, I was dead set on lifting and adding larger tires, but now I’m thinking I’ll just switch the AT tires to MT. The suspension is really, really dialed in! I do not want to F with its greatness.
If I do lift, it will simply be a spacer lift.

 

I just got my 2018 done with a 3” Ready Lift and kept all suspension parts original. So far I’m very happy with it.
