My 2001 has a moon roof simply because I (1) couldn't find a similarly equipped 4Runner without one and (2) I was able to get a very good deal on it.
When I went shopping for my 2018, more choices were available, and I found a TRD OFF ROAD equipped the way I wanted, without the moon roof. I had to settle for the port installed tube steps (which were quickly removed), a chrome exhaust pipe tip and wheel locks.

My Pro came W/Moon roof. Only time I have it in the slanted opening is when in garage W/Windows open for heat ventilation. I hate them. My wife always has her's open on her vehicle. Fortunately being a 2 door she can only do that & not slide it open! I always put the shade/cover over when W/her. Hate the sun blasting on me/my eyes.

I'm probably alone in this, but back when I had my 2015, I regretted spending good money on locally-made molle panels. They were beautifully made, high quality, and looked fantastic. The guy did a great job. I found it to be a huge pain to actually mount things though. I couldn't fit my hand behind them to mount fasteners, so it was best to just remove the whole thing when you wanted to mount a new piece, which was a pain. I ended up mounting the usuals, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, a small axe. But then I didn't like the idea of all those things, especially the axe, becoming projectiles if I was in a crash. I also felt like having all that gear up on display in the back windows was just temptation for the nearest thief. Now I just keep everything in bins and tool bags underneath a cargo cover in the back. I forget the name of the guy who made them, he's local to Colorado and I think he's on the forum somewhere. He did a great job, so if you ARE into the molle lifestyle, I highly recommend his products :)

Pst pandemic with high rate of crimes / theft in CO per news now I don't keep anything visible. Good thing small things like my GMRS radio main unit is under driver seat. I just hide the mouth piece when I run to Walmart or something similar and quick. Same story for other stuff, no accessory equipment visible in the car.

Also in Colorado. Thought bout doing Molle panel for a second, but quickly realized the advertising effect it would have. I did do the Cali Raised Cat Shields and glad I did. Feel better leaving the truck in parking lots now.

I tried Gibson, Borla, magnaBLOW, the TRD one, and the drone was too much on all of them. I finally settled with the OEM one and done. Peace and quiet. I think I was looking for something too special and the price point for that was probably all the above combos....but on one go....not multiple.

I have the CanvasBack liners for the cargo area and 2nd row setbacks. I like them but I'm not sure if I would buy them again, especially if my main goal was protection in connection with carrying my pooches. I bought a Bulldogology SUV Cargo Liner off of Amazon for my wife's RAV4 and it's great, especially for $55 - $60. If you're buying it for the 4Runner cargo area only, get the Cargo Large. If you want to fold the 2nd row seats down and cover those plus the entire cargo area, get the Cargo Extra Large.

If we're talking about OEM options, 3rd row seats.

Cool. For some it works and it's needed. For me, the space gained and weight savings was more of benefits to me when i removed them.

Lol. Literally asked this right under the answer. I just found that humorous.

Its just not the option for me. After having them, i only had them up to test drive the truck and make sure everything was working. And after Sorenson the time to take them out, the mpgs rose and space in the rear to fit taller things. And the dog likes the extra room too. So for me, I just feel not having them to begin with would've benefited me more.

I buy used, but I hate 3rd row. Kills space. I realize now even with research, I didn't know much about the models or options. Nicest thing I have ever owned in used 4runners.

I bought the walls for my OVS awning, I thought I would use them in place of my tent on occasion, but I haven't even installed them just to try them out. Costly mistake.

Here is one nobody else mentioned. When I bought my used 2024 Limited (with only 1031 miles) two months ago, it had the factory option, center console combination lock safe installed. It made the console totally unusable, so I removed it and put it in a box up in the attic to keep it clean for if I ever decide to sell it. I would never have used it to store a weapon in it when I am not in the vehicle. And when in my state and am in my vehicle, it would not have to be locked.

The only other option it came with that I would rather not have are the 3rd row seats.

What I do regret is the trail rails that came on it. I took them off and when it warms up a little I’m gonna clean them up and try to sell them. But that’s gonna be a pita and local pickup only.

I’ve had my Limited for 10 years and put in an aftermarket console safe a few months ago. I don’t see another way of storing when I have to go into a bank (just one example where it is a federal offense to carry concealed; there are also State locations where it is illegal to carry). Usually in and out of locations where it’s illegal so it’s not like it’s in there for a great deal of time. Maybe because mine is an aftermarket unit, I have plenty of space to carry other items (sunglasses, spare keys, cash).

I was worried about this too. Before I installed my panels and shelf I went ahead with 5% ceramic tint in the rear quarter glass. Went very dark with rear glass as well (15% I think..)

Problem solved. I value the extra privacy on camping trips or when I have to haul other gear around.

The one thing I do regret buying is the lightbar to fill the gap in the C4 Bumper. Not because it doesn't work... But because the gap would have been useful when trying to use the winch rope. Once that the rope gets tangled up on the spool it can be a huge pain in the rear.

If I ditched the light bar I'd be able to see the winch line and spool. I'd also have an extra OEM style button I could utilize for a front locker or on board air. Since I'm out of OEM button locations I'll have to invest in a switch panel.
