Was in upstate NY today with my new 4runner. Ran into alot of Steep highway hills. Rig seamed to struggle going up. Should I be using the sequential shifter? Felt like no power and I really needed to get on it.

    Thanks Eric

Ya, they don’t do very well going over passes. When we are going over 10,000ft passes in CO loaded with gear my 4Runner is definitely working hard. I usually turn off OD and control
Shifting with the gas pedal to try to prevent it from shifting too much. Manually controlling it would do the same. I have always thought running at higher RPM’s but shifting less frequently is better on a vehicle than constant shifting between gears.

I've always thought the same thing, as long as you're not red lining it and you're watching the temp. It's not like you're doing this kind of thing for an hour straight. It's usually a few minutes and done. I always manually shift into 4 when I have a 5 minute hill to climb at speed.

Up and down today definitely better with sequential shifting.
