amp under seat fitment - ideas on this?

I bought brackets from Taco Tunes and they mostly fit but hit the carpet on one side. There's really nothing under the carpet where the bracket hits, the carpet is just kinda bubbled up and hollow there.

However in trying to get there brackets as low as possible so I don't have to raise the seats much if any, I was thinking of either cutting the carpet or bracket. Leaning towards cutting the brackets.

I was placing the amp and accessories and it looks like there's enough room to cut them where i have drawn in red. The blue tape is where the seat rails are and I am trying to avoid for clearance.

Any better ways to do this or anyone have any input?

 

On my 4R, the installers punched tiny holes in the carpet and zip tied the the amp. It works. There is precious little room under the seats. If you really want to use a bracket you may have to raise the seat.

 

I noticed how tight it was when I scoped out the possibilities of various mods. I wonder how much more space seat jackers would provide. I prefer the seat higher anyway.

 

Can stack two 8" 4x4 under my driver seat with them.

 

Should mention that the pass seat does not have Seat Jackers

 

I fit my 6 channel Alpine amp under the passenger seat no issues (No brackets), but i had to remove the heat vent so not to overheat the amp.

 

I almost bought their amp rack. Seeing what you are dealing with makes me glad I didnt. But I did use their idea and built my own. Found a panel of 20ga steel, used some cardbaord as a template to clear all the carpet folds and left a slot for the ground lug on the right side as well. I ended up using the back 2 seat holes and then put a 90* bend at the front, trimmed out where the air vent is and used the existing nut that it welded on the front hump to secure it there. Im going to use either 1/8 to1/4" thick polycarb or plastic board to add a little more rigidity and then cover in black carpet. The amp (AC D-6.1200) is about 2.5 inches high, and it has about 2 inches of clearance above it. Good luck with your build.

 

So this right here. I would like to avoid removing heater or A/C functionality for the rear.

Per other comments here, I have some wide washers that look like they would work well and allow a very small lift to the seat.

Ill have to get some. Everything is just laying around in the garage. Been deployed on and off for the last few months and just havent had any time to mess with it. Shit, the project started sometime in January...

So I ended up marking off where I could cut them to clear the carpet, made sure the amps and everything still fit, and then cut baby cut. Sanded and painted the edges. I appreciate being able to run stuff past the group here thanks everyone for the replies.

 

No way around it if doing under the seat and not wanting to add heat to the amp. Besides AC won't blow from the floor and it really never reaches the back anyway from under the seat.

 

I stuffed a rag in the vent to shut it down. My amp overheated once, and went into survival mode. The rag fixed that issue.

 

Finaly got to work and finish the under seat amp rack.
Template and base is 20ga. Then countersunk and bolted 3/8 HDPE to it for strength/ rigidity, then covered in black trunk carpet. The amp will bolt thru both adding a little more strength.
Rear mount is secured with the rear seat bolts ( like the TT unit) but the front bends 90* up at the front seat mount structure. Under the right side, under the harness, is a welded in nut (from the factory) used to secure the front. Its been so long since I bought everything, I said I had the 6.1200, but forgot I changed my mind at the last minute and got the D-5.1300. Thats how long this project has been sitting around Hopefully, the weather cooperates, and I can get everything wired up next weekend!

All this work to make a rack for the amp. I assume people are doing this so they don't have to block/remove the floor vent? Even with the rack it's still going to get super hot when vent is blowing heat.

The lower vent was super easy to remove. Curious if overheating will still be an issue with the vent still blowing under the amp rack.

 

The rack(for me anyway) is strictly to have something to mount the amp to, instead of drilling holes into the body. Im doing it this way so the amp is completely out of sight and out of the way. Twice a month I am folding down my rear seats and loading up the entire back end, so having it there was not an option. Plus "out of site" also mean less likely to have it eyeballed by some lowlife...
As far as the vent goes, if it becomes an issue, Ill block it off or make a diverter. But until I have an issue with it, Im not worried...

 

correct, to retain AC and heat. We'll see. if it over heats I'll put a washer down as a spacer so it's not as close to the metal. As it stands now the amp sits about 1/2 a millimeter maybe less off the metal so it's not quite touching it but it's really close.

There was a hard requirement from my wife to keep all AC functionality for the dog.

Also the way the wiring is so tight with everything I have there's tension with some of the wiring, particularly power cables, and I don't think I would have been able to make it work very will with velcro on the carpet.

@Thacrow Been following your build, nice work! I just installed an amp under the passenger seat - where did you end up grounding it? I used a bracket that was under the seat but I'm getting some feedback most likely due to a bad ground. Thanks for any help!

 

Hey thanks for the compliment! Glad you're making progress. Yeah you gotta have a good ground. This is paramount.

I've zoomed in on this image and put some "very well-drawn arrows". I did my ground for each amp to this bracket which I believe the center console bolts to. You absolutely HAVE to sand the metal down to bare metal where you ground.

oh one other thing, I've read it's best to run your RCA's away from your power, so I tried my best to not have them touch or be near each other. Power is coming in from the passenger firewall, and then you can see power going around the back side of the center console over to the driver side amp while the RCA's I've kept towards the front of the seats and well away as best I could.

 

Nicely done! I also have one of those TacoTunes under seat mount. Mounted my Kicker amp with no issues.

Ive had 2 amps, and a dsp, and fuse block under my pass side chair for 5 years. Alls been fine. No heater this or that, or spacers. Been great here.
