What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Popped in the MESO Duel Color map lights.

 

Today I did the rest of the maintenance work. That should be enough for the next few miles, or rather kilometers

• changed front brake pads
• changed brake fluid
• drain&fill coolant
  
• greased propeller shafts

Thanks to the tips and instructions from the internet and the service friendliness of the 4 Runner, everything was easy. Even if you are doing it for the first time.

I would stop asking for shop opinions. You already know what you want.

Get a stock SR5 muffler and tell them you want it put on with the exhaust going out the side. Let them say yes or no.

 

Did you get those recently? If so, mind sharing where? All the places I looked they were out of stock. I have the dome and rear hatch Meso lights. Just need the mail light kit.

 

Grabbed them from a member on here recently. New and unopened.

MESO just released another batch of the Dome lights so I’m thinking the Maps will be next. You can sign up for product alerts on his site.

I received a email that the V2 Dome Duel Color lights were back in stock on Tuesday and they’re already sold out.
Need to be fast when stuff is released.

 

I was on the waiting list for 5 mos before they shipped. Time goes fast, so get on the notify list. The wait is worth it.

I’ve wondered the same thing about cutting the cab to hatch rubber. I have ran a temporary small gauge wire through a crack back there at top rear right corner, doesn’t pinch.
I ended up running from the engine bay up the windshield instead.

This project is STILL going on? Aren't you on like...the 3rd week of it? Dang man. Put it all back together so you can drive (and enjoy) your 4Runner.

 

Yes sir. Third weekend. Wife isn't happy. a lot of it was realizing i was missing a cable or adapter, or the right bolt or screw and running around to hardware stores and ordering from Amazon and waiting. Also I did not have a complete vision when I started, I'll be the first to admit. I think it will be together this weekend tho.

Edit : while I stand here waiting to be helped at the parts department at Toyota because I can't find a piece that goes in my Hazzard button.

The amps didn't come with bolts. Spent most of last sunday driving around buying metric bolts. Could only scrounge machine screws. Don't like those. Ordered flat head at Amazon.

Didn't know taco tunes sells brackets for hatch speakers ordered those. Bolts that come from taco tunes don't work. Another trip to the hardware store.

When I started I was t even going to replace the hatch speakers but decided why not? Also wasn't going to replace the camera, also why not? That stuff was the most difficult wiring in the car by far.

When going to install my amp control knob I decided why not have 2 and ordered a 2nd one so have so I can decide later when I want it to do.

The Metra dash kit came scratched so had to wait for another.

Lot of trips to stereo shops that first weekend for small odds and ends.

Crutchfield had one of the adaptors wrong so I just ordered everything Amazon had and one of those worked.

I took Thursday and Friday off that first weekend but ended up working most a lot during those days because stuff came up. Fathers day fucked me the weekend after that.

And a lot, lot more. It's just been tedius.

Edit 2 while I wait mexican food for the family: lot of stuff I ordered 2 or 3 times. Wires, fuses, breakers. I got something to make it work but wasn't ideal and as this project as carried on I made sure everything was done the way I wanted which often took more time waiting for another part to come.

You mean the adaptive cruise and LDA buttons? AFAIK they aren't sold separately. You'd buy the whole switch panel assy with button arrangement and color that matches your vehicle, then it's easy to install with two screws e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/374491307824



I found a listing for a full steering wheel assy out of a crashed 2019 Tacoma TRD for cheaper than buying the switch panels separately.

Make sure that price includes the center caps . My dealer has the same price but it didn’t include the caps .

PTR20-35110-BK is the one that the cap is included.
This wheel part number : PTR56-89210-F2 is the $210.00 wheel that the dealers are selling but no center caps .

Received these in the mail.. so had to run out and get them installed!! Now Map, dome and tailgate all Red/White!!

 

Any issues removing the bolts? Mine have been on for 5 years and I do a lot of beach driving. Worried I’ll have issues removing the bolts.
