LFD Crossbars On Stock Roof Rails

Anyone using LFD crossbars on their stock OEM roof rails ? Wanted to go with just 2 for now and was wondering about wind noise .

I had a pair with their wind fairing, gen1? from 2020. No noise no issue with fit. Held up great for 3 years then went with a full rack.

 

No change in wind noise for me either. Can't even tell they are there. I also have kayak holder installed and still no extra wind noise. Once I put the kayaks on, oh boy depending on the wind direction they sing in the wind...so annoying but what can you do.

 

Did you have the wind fairing cross bar in the front?

 

Yes, I got one bar with the wind fairing and one just regular.

 

Thanks. Any rub on the roof, and/or did you use the edge trim? Sorry for all the questions...

 

If I recall it came with the edge trim but did not use as I have about a 3/8" or so gap and kind of figured it is good enough. Even when loaded with 3 kayaks(approx. 130Lbs) the gap is still there. The bars feel really solid.

 

My LFD cross bars with wind fairing and edge trim are holding up great after two years. No noticeable wind noise.

The edge trim does contact the roof. The instructions say to lay down some clear vinyl where the trim contacts the roof to protect the paint.
I didn't do that as I didn't have any clear vinyl wrap.

I've loaded them up with tool boxes, traction boards, firewood, etc. They work great and are very solid.

Right now I have my awning mounted to them. I wouldn't recommend LFD's awning mounts though. I had to reinforce mine with some scrap angle iron. Works for now but eventually I will refine the mounts with a grinder and welder

 

I would do the same if the gap was that size.
