Anyone cross shopping the ineos grenadier?

Stock trim only $73k new.

~$25k more than the 4R… so just need to cough up around $30k, when factoring in selling the 2023 ORP.

curious about the dimensions. Looks huge in photos, but dimension specs indicate very similar to the 4R. Need to know whether it will fit in my garage.

very intrigued by its styles… definitely very unique.

may pull the trigger.. if the test drive goes well

 

I looked at it, but the extra capability it offers isn't worth the greater cost to me. Convenient parts availability is also an issue. It's an interesting vehicle, though.

Styling is no good.. plus everyone and their mom will have one…

 

For that kind of money I'd be looking at the new Lexus GX instead.

 

It’s cool but they’re in different categories and price points in my book. I’d say a GX or old LC would be its competition.

The B58 in there is under stressed so it should last longer but it is BMW.

Is that true that the B58 is under-stressed?

I would imagine something like off-roading would be a hell of a lot more stressing, especially since this engine has been mostly applied on on-road cars. I have experienced the B58 in a 540i and it was amazing thing hauls ass. I would be skeptical about it off-road.

 

Tell that to Tundra owners.

I looked at reviews of Grenadier, looks very interesting, but it is just too risky. Especially with BMW turbo engine under the hood. While I want them to succeed, I think it will turn out just like Fisker

 

I love the idea of the Grenadier - the throwback design (110 copy), more utilitarian, etc. But they lost me at "French built." In the end, this is a British car company, using a BMW drivetrain, Portuguese body and chassis, then built in France... for the $80k.

In a perfect world, this concept would've been sketched at that Pub (the Grenadier), spec'ed by Americans (we always overdo things), engineered by the Germans, body designed by the Italians, interior by the Brits (damn, they make some beautiful interiors... as long as they let someone else wire up the power seats)... then turn everything over to the Japanese or Koreans to put it all together.

Until ^that^ happen, I have to stick with Toyota (and Lexus).

 

A manufacturing issue has nothing to do with the reliability of the design...

 

They definitely cut down the output on it for this application. Maybe it’s to protect the driveline.

Has a BMW powertrain. If I wanted to get stuck somewhere because the engine stops I would get a Land Rover so I can wait in more comfort.

 

On a side note, there's a video about finding and restoring the first Land Rover Defender ever built. The buyer was the founder of Ineos.

Go through some moderate trails and you quickly learned about the limitations of a stock 4Runner. Aftermarket support is therefore crucial, and there is none for a boutique brand like Ineos. Is there an established upgrade path to run 35" tires? Can you regear it?

 

I still have more confidence in Toyota fixing the 3.5 issue like they did the 5.7 when it came out vs relying on a modern BMW engine ever being reliable after a couple years of use.

 

Our wonderful EPA has all but regulated the Diesel in this country out of existence. I wouldn’t touch a DEF diesel….

 

I bet parts and service are easy to get….

Yes, there is aftermarket. An Aussie YouTuber (Ronnie Dahl) has a lift and 34s on his. He said the only reason he didn't go with 35s is rear door clearance for the spare tire.

His videos are great, they're worth checking out for the scenery alone.

 

itll be rare alright..youll be the only one who has one and everybody can watch it weekly go off to the dealer in limp mode on the back of a flatbed after it threw some code that shuts it all down for a 10 cent Bosch component made in Mexico.. fun times..

I guess I'll go against the grain. I'm cross-shopping one. I bought a 2024 ORP about a month ago. The Ineos is a better off road vehicle. We probably all know the story, but the person that built the Ineos wanted to continue building the Land Rover Defender series. Land Rover wouldn't allow it, so he built a better Land Rover. If you think the LR Defender series is good off road, the Ineos will be better. The BMW engine is well-proven, the components are "one-ton". The support is already there, world-wide. Aftermarket companies are supporting it. If you think US-centric, there are probably more cons, but if you think in terms of global platform and support, the Ineos is a great vehicle that is already sold around the world. It's based on proven designs; improved. It is over-built.

All of those things can be looked at in the negative. It's expensive, because it's over-built. It's not "rare", and won't be rare. It's purpose-built, meaning if you want to be a soccer-mom/dad that drives the kids to and from practice and gymnastics, in traffic, you'll probably get tired of it pretty quick.

It's like buying a F350 when all you need is a base model Ford Ranger. But, if you need one of the most overbuilt vehicles for extremes, the Ineos Grenadier is going to be the vehicle that crosses the finish line while the rest are spinning tires.

 

Yes will be doing a lot of neighborhood driving.. going up forest roads that a Subaru can do.. from there, a marginal proportion of driving will be on trails where the diff between ineos and 4R may not be fully evident.

so mostly interested for the “vibes” of an old school vehicle (think 70 series) as an everyday vehicle (avg about 300 miles / month)

are you finding limitations with your 4R? You getting rid of it, or keeping both?

 

Those are opposite to reasons why most people buy 4Runners.

 

Not true.. many ppl hate the styling of the 6th gen. Will not get it for that reason alone.

Alex over at AoA/ABG got one. Looks slick but personally I'm not crazy over the old-school Jeep/Bronco/LR look.

Of course I'm just a peon so the price is out of the question and I'm definitely not the target market.
