I really want a new 4runner but the MPG

Mine has been complimented a bunch of times. A few times at a gas station, once at a liquor store, even a few times by women.

Maybe you just need to doll yours up a little better.

 

It’s just a 4r… lipsticks or not.. there is nothing special with a mass produced vehicle..

if I follow through and pick up a JDM HZJ77.. yes will be sportin a shit eating grin while fishing for compliments

 

Coming from a 2001 QX4 (basically pathfinder), this seems like a slight improvement for a larger vehicle. I still continue to drive my 91 Civic to save on commutes. The new 4runner is slowly becoming my weekend vehicle. This helps a bit on gas savings.

 

I agree it’s just a mass produced vehicle, but it sure is nice when you hear folks yell compliments about your mass produced ride.

Back when i started my job 20 years ago, i drove a V6 4x4 Tacoma every day for many years and loved hearing the 33's roaring down the road and i had to fuel up twice a week, i was spending about $120 a week in gas (don't recall the real number) that was when i bought the corolla because back then $400 a month was a payment on a corolla and that only had to be filled up once a week.

I still have the Tacoma never had the heart to get rid of it. It's considered an antique now so there is no tax on it.

wanting the 4runner is more nostalgic than anything as it looks like the last of toyotas best as i do not like the direction they are going with turbos and batteries as the only option. I don't want batteries in my vehicles it does not fit my needs.

 

Whether or not it's mass produced isn't the point. You said "no one is impressed enough to compliment a rando’s 4r", and I'm saying that it happens to me occasionally. And, mine isn't nearly as built as some I've seen.

I do think that we agree, though, on the fact that people don't buy these things to get random compliments, or to feel cool or whatever that other post said.

I bought mine because it's a fairly capable off-roader that can haul my camping gear, and is fairly comfortable for traveling as well.

So, people are seriously paying thousands of dollars per year on property tax on their vehicle?

I'll remember to check that out before I ever move to a different state. Maybe in a state that doesn't have income tax that would make more sense.

 

It doesn't make any sense at all regardless of where you live. States that don't have an income tax usually have higher property taxes and other taxes. So it's not like the lack of a state income tax means you have an overall lower tax burden.

So, no, $4 per $100 of assessed value on personal property doesn't make a bit of sense. On a vehicle with an $80,000 assessment that would be $3,200 per year, even if you keep it parked in the garage and rarely drive it. Sheesh!

 

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought that was a little crazy!

 

I could care less about compliments from others. In fact, despite the flashy colors of my cars, attention from others is a con to me, hence the dark tints I just buy what I like.

But whether a vehicle is mass produced or not has no impact on how special it is imo. There are mass produced vehicles that are special and expensive rare limited ones that are pieces of junk.

The 4Runner is a pretty special vehicle imo. Fancy gizmos and newest gimmicky tech? No…..but bulletproof design and exceptional QC is more special to me than most $100K+ disposable tech turd people carriers nowadays.

 

It's a rip off they keep talking about getting rid of it but never do.

It really does shine if you are easy on the gas pedal. This is today during certain stretches doing about 65 mph. Of course , it goes down immediately if you increase the speed to 80. Still averaged around 22 over 700 miles to Santa Fe.
Started with Shell 89 and then added Exxon premium along the way.

Wrong, it's a lot more than a .15 cent difference. In my area, it's averaging .60 cent difference:




I know this fluctuates from day-to-day, but it's more than .15 cents! 60 cents x's 20 gallons is $12 MORE per tank. If you fill up once a week, that can really add up.

so let's say you drive you truck an average of 100 miles a day (for some odd reason!!) - 500 miles a week with a mpg due to your heavy foot and desire to pass all the minivans at 15, about 33 gallons a week - that's only $25 dollars more? that's like one happy meal these days!!

 

I have a pre facelift model. That came with this MID before it was replaced by a clock .

 

Not around here. At my usual gas station it’s 80 cents more. I drove by one station today where it was $1.40 more. It’s been years since it was only a 10 cent increase between fuel grades here.

 

Same as others have said here. It's anywhere from 80 cents to over a dollar difference.

How much life does your Corolla have you think? I mean I would get the 4R and not use for commuting which is what we do. Keep the Corolla as a beater commuter.

 

It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor it’s still throwing money away to the oil industry for no reason. We aren’t talking about a high performance sports car here, it’s a soccer mom mobile.

 

There's no reason why that Corolla won't run as long as any 4Runner with the proper care.

 

Diesel in my area is 0.60 to 0.80 less than regular. It is cheaper for me to drive my 7K# diesel than either 4R, go figure.

 

I paid $2.97 for regular at Costco the other day.
