Best "aggressive" looking tire with *street* performance :D

I'm trying really hard to convince my buddy to modify his Gladiator

 

What about Duratrac RT? I'll be lookimg at these new Duratracs this year

 

From what I saw, the RT only comes in an "E" load range in the size I would want, and I would never buy E range tires for a 4Runner. I've run C,D, and E rated Duratracs on my Wrangler and my Silverado and I would do it again without a question in C or D range - BUT the Mickey looks like an awesome tire, and comes in SL.

 

True, hoping this summer they'll get a D or C version (I curently have D Duratracs). What caught my eye was 285/75/17 vs the size I have now 285/70/17

 

Took my 4Runner in to Discount Tire yesterday for a screw in the left rear tire (3rd time in the same tire, lucky me). They repaired the tire while I waited, but said it would have to be replaced if it happened again in the same tire. If I am so lucky as to have that happen, I suppose I'll revisit the replacement scenario at that time. Otherwise I decided I just need to wear the current Falken Wildpeak AT/3s out and not spend the bucks needed for a new set at this time. They really aren't that loud.

 

I picked up some 255/75R17s in SL and they're not bad around town. Shakedown run is end of the month so we'll see how they hold up.

 

So I ended up going with MT Baja Boss's. Same size as my old KO2's, 285 70R 17's. My question is, my mpg already went down a mile a gallon, does that seem possible from changing manufacturers? I acknowledge there's quite a bit more tread on my new tires then my old ones.

 

Looking good. Def possible depending on the weight of the tire and aggressiveness.

Looks good. Did you get them in E load or SL load? The weight from E load would certainly drag down MPG.

 

Whatever "Standard load" is. I'm assuming that's C. My previous KO2's were C as well

 

Question for ya Fast Eddie is your rig still stock suspension? I didn't know if the 285/70r17 fit well on stock suspension of an ORP? I've been looking at new tires but haven't done a thing to my ORP yet in terms of any suspension lift. All stock 5k miles in.

 

Can you post some front, rear, quartered pics? I had this size on my Tacoma and really liked. Not sure on the look yet for the 4R

 

I can, but they're on Method 701s which are really wide and not at all what they'd look on Toyota wheels. Gimme a bit and I'll take some later.

SL and XL are P-metric ratings about load vs C/D/E which are heavier construction and load ratings. The C/D/E are an actual standard spec while SL/XL are a manufacturer designation.

 

It has leveling spacers in the front and needed some minimal trimming to the front bumper and I removed the mud flaps and no rubbing although I now have 1.25 wheel spacers which cause it to rub. Planning on getting a BMC in the future.

 

@HuskerRunner it's overcast so the contrast is rough but here's a few quick ones

 

Unfortunately the tire place in my small town can't guarantee they would ever get these and I didn't want to buy from somewhere else for a few reasons. They did have these in stock so I guess I'm a KO2 guy now

 

I had Duras on my old ZJ like 15 years ago, and I loved them. I'm glad they finally updated these.

Looks like the center tread pattern is a little tighter on the new one? I know you've already posted pics, but could you post up a well lit closer one of the sidewall?

And I apologize if this has already been answered, I'm having a hard time keeping up all the replies in this thread, but how is the noise?

can you not touch the dark spots on the screen when taking a photo to adjust the contrast? would love to be able to see something in these pics. just ordered ko2s myself

 

I mean you can pull down the file and tweak it if you'd like but I don't exactly care enough to put much effort into quick camera photos. Click all I want, something was getting blown out with the lighting as it was.

 

I've had these a few times and they're a solid tire. You won't be disappointed!

I noticed you painted your TRD ORP wheels. They look amazing! Not happy with current look and was going to swap out for Black TRD but I actually think I like this better. Can you elaborate on process, cost and durability.

Love my KO2s so much that I will be trying the KO3s when these things finally wear out.

*dunno if MT’s come with white letters available, so I paint markered letters
They also have wicked rim protection
@FastEddie6 I bet the 1 mpg is prolly the new tread and everything, or even a circumstantial coincidence.

 

I know it's an old thread but I am surprised that nobody mentioned Goodyear Ultra Terrains offered by Discount tire only. I have been running them for 2 years on my 21 TRD Off Road and they are the best AT tire I have found for off roading and very comfortable street. Behave much better than BFG KO 2's -3's in the wet and much light too. This is my 4th Runner and have run most AT tires.

 

I have a set of those, was on my taco, now swap them onto the runner once in a while. Thinking about getting another set, as these are old now.
