I started work a few months ago getting this '87 ready for all my cool parts on my '85. I am building it in my backyard with no garage, which sucks. I lost motivation and didn't work on it for a while, but I am slowly starting up again.

IFS cut out and started grinding. Still have a bit of grinding to do. Rear suspension out, rebuilt transfer case is out and sold

I took a break from grinding to build an intake on the 22re, mock up my Artec diehard 31m battery cage (I am moving the battery to the driver side), and install a Doug Thorley header. I need a M8-1.25x50 bolt between the head and timing cover that a shop left out during the rebuild. Turns out it needs to keep the timing cover from leaking. I need a stud kit for the header too.

I ordered a rear main seal set, might as well replace the leaking one while the tcase is out.

Which one? They both run, still wheeling the '85 til the '87 is prepped for the solid axle.

Well, the '87 did run when I bought it. Had an oil leak at the top of the timing cover. Turns out the bolt under the distributor gear is broken off in the timing cover. So off it comes, got this far before the lightning started this evening. I need a garage.

    Missing bolt

Found the timing cover is ruined by a failed easy-out attempt

    re8usagy_d0e1a092935dbfcb1ad05318a2a86e08a280ddb9.jpg

I ordered a new cover, hardware, gasket/seal kit, and metal chain guides.

I put new leafs in a buddy's taco today, washed mine and played around with it, and found wheeling pics from a couple weekends ago.

Which triple stick setup is that? I'm setting up my inchworm taco case using front range's twin stick but would rather go triples if I could. Do you know if that would work on a 3rd gen with a chain case? Just curious.

    Thanks Kid

Lol, yup. Wish I started with a 4wd Taco, but the FJ case will be much more reliable.

I got the 297k mile W56 out yesterday. Gonna clean the piss out of it and replace what I can/should

What's the part number on that puller? I couldn't find one like that when I did my clutch last time.

This is the one; I was worried I wouldn't find anything to pull only the outer race, but this worked perfectly.

What if it was intact, would that one be small enough to pull it?

Now that I don't know. It says jaw opening 3/4"-1 1/2". Not sure what the inner race diameter is. I can check for you with my new bearing, but not til Sunday or Monday.

Well Kid, err Utah, that puller does not fit the inner bearing race.

I got the new rear main seal, pilot bearing, and trans. input shaft seal installed. I'm going to pressure wash the underside before I reinstall the transmission.

I didn't think it would. I think Toyota used that tiny little bearing on purpose just to make you buy their SST, the fawkers.

No updates on the '87, cool weather is finally showing up though.

I was having withdrawals so I took the '85 wheeling over the weekend with some friends. A dead battery almost kept me from going, I had to swap the Taco's battery in at the parking.

    It was slick and fun

Update for those who care. The rear axle is finally hung and shock mounts are in place, and the knuckle ball gussets are in place but still need to box the steering stops.

Trail Gear stud eliminator, these bolts replace the diff studs to help prevent the diff from loosening and separating from the housing.
