I just went and did it. Changed my own uca.

Finally got my tools built up enough and my tiny diy shop in order. I changed my uca's to after market off road uca with better castor and beefier gussetts. I was never too mechanically inclined until I bought my 4runner now I love working on it and tackling bigger projects as I learn more. It relaxes me and is good exersize in the Florida heat lol. Took me about 2 hours to do and saved 400$ in labor.

Good stuff! I rebuilt the front end on my 07 FJ 4 summers ago at 242K. Did wheel bearings, LCA's, CV's and TC gussets. Sense of accomplishment doing it all myself/yourself.

 

Was it a pain to take out the UCA Bolt? It was a pain in the ass on the Tacoma. I ended up cutting it and reinstalling in backwards.

Yes, the passenger side was a pain to get out. I drove it out with a punch from the other side while guiding it past the ac lines. It goes back in easy though and driver side was a breeze. I got the uca's off fb market place. The ball joints don't have any play and are greasable also I can replace them when I need to. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

 

I had a buddy who just asked me what I like to do to relax. I replied work. He laughed and don’t think he understood. I know you do. I’d rather be fixing things around the house or working on my cars or bikes than sitting at the pool staring at the sky. It relaxes me. I hate doing it when you have to though. Like coming home to a leaking copper heater pipe but doing it your leisure and getting it done right there’s nothing more satisfying. Sounds like you got a future in wrenching and fixing things.

 

You sound exactly like me. Keeping busy and working on this/fixing things as I want to keeps me happy. Emergency fixes... well bring on the stress.

 

Absolutely brings on the stress and usually takes a few sh*ts, F?!ks and mother f?!kers to get it done.

That’s how we used to judge the difficulty of a job by how many of those we estimated it would take before getting her done.

 

The Freedom Off-Road UCA’s are legit, great option for a budget UCA. I ran them on my Tacoma and put some heavy use on them with no issues.

Glad to hear the bolt was easier to replace than it is on a Tacoma. I will be installing the suspension along with SPC UCA’s on the 4Runner next weekend.

 

Good job. Congrats on a job well done. The 4runner is a shade tree mechanics dream. Now it's time to tackle some new shocks/struts. Fun stuff!
