Daayuuumm forgo the trd trim’s premium$ but spend $1k on seat covers..

I didn’t jive with the DFW area dealers I visited when shopping so I ended up going used. Getting a couple shipped in via CarMax worked out in my favor since I was also looking for an SR5 specifically.

I’m sure a lot are bound to be ex-rentals if that concerns you but you’ll be able to check out more inventory.

By the time I filtered out white, black, sunroofs, 2WD, etc. pickings weren’t exactly slim but they weren’t rolling in them. I settled for blue but silver would have been “optimal”. Definitely worth a look if incoming allocations at dealers don’t seem to fit.

 

Did you try Freeman Toyota in Hurst?
This was the only dealer I found w/in 50 miles of Fort Worth not charging 'market adjustments' on the Pro, and actually advertised SR5s with a discount

No regrets, love the cloth seats, no sunroof and no third row.

 

Agreed. I like to drive with roof and back window open and the inevitable dust cleanup is so easy compared to cloth.

 

We bought a 2021 SR5 Premium coming out of a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport and couldn't be happier. The Tacoma had fabric seats which quite honestly were a pain to clean. The Softex material in the T4R is comfortable, easy to clean and durable so far. (That would be 65,000 miles.) I like it much better than fabric or even leather.



As far as getting a silver SR5 Premium, they should be available. In fact, when our dealer searched for the Super White SR5P we wanted, the first thing that popped up was a silver one. I like silver (we have a silver 2006 Scion xB), but if you ever need paint work, it's a royal PITA to match. (Ask me how I know that.)



Understanding that 5th gen T4R's get harder to find by the day, I'd recommend that you consider broadening your horizons a bit to see if something just a bit different might be available.

 

I didn't know the softex were so disliked, I think they are great and clean up really well with some Mothers VLR.

 

Softex is better than leather for an active lifestyle vehicle. the cracking and wrinkles of leather is hella annoying

 

Off-road, car camping, and backpacking in UT and NM, not to mention the 6 kmile road trip connected to it. Here I was parked at a trailhead for six days. That was a month ago and I still haven't got all the sand out of the tailgate and sunroof.

Another stretch of this trip included 50 miles each way on a sand road.

 

They're 295/45 R 20's and I'm pretty happy with them so far. I never go offroad and the worst environment they see is a wet launch ramp. They're great in the dry with tons of grip, low noise and much better stability in the wind than the factory tires or the winter Blizzaks. Ride quality is very nice with 30 PSI in them. They're also surprisingly good in the rain in spite of their width. Fuel economy seems to be about 1 MPG better than stock.

 

My only regret in going with an SR5 was not having the rear locker that the TRDs get. Couldn’t care less about any of the other options.

 

Meh. With A-Trac, a rear locker isn’t all that necessary unless rock crawling or something to that extreme.

 

Ha! That's the perfect description of that interrior. I knew that look from somewhere.

I went and did the blackout trim cover on shifter area cover and found a wheel with black buttons and bezels on ebay ,it looks much better on my sr5.

 

I don’t know what Aiwa is but it looks WAY better than the faux wood trim of the limited.

 

Back of my head I always have the regret selling my SR5. It had 7 seats and no moonroof. I'm a big fan of no moonroof and of cause (thank goodness) SR5 don't have KDSS or XREAS.
I could have mod it to be better than my TRD Pro. And money would have been better spent that Toyota picking parts and adding them at the port.

Possible questions-
TRD ORP / Pro has manual transfercase?

• The front diff actuator is still electronic.
• My wife cannot use the manual transfer case selector as its too hard to use.
• My friends wife accidentally shifted from 4H to 4L on their TRD Pro at highway speed giving Christmas lights on dash. (We believe it had some protection mechanism that prevented physical damage. )

For anyone interested my mods plan on a high-level if I kept my SR5 would be (not in order):

• Adjustable 2.5 shocks with under 2.5in lift
• Light weight A/T tires SL or Load C max
• Front and Rear lockers (so I can even use on 4H)
• Audio system upgrade, something like OEM audio+, I think it's better than JBL I have on mine.
• Katskinz seat covers with heating for all seats. Atleast 1st and 2nd row.
• Of cause every skid and sliders.
• Some forward lighting upgrades.

 

The only 4Runner purchase that baffles me is one without 4 wheel drive. To me that’s really pushing the limits of defeating the purpose. I think it’s weird that you can actually get ones without it.

ATRAC hasn’t let me down yet in the rocks, so long as it’s dry. Snow is where it falls flat on its face, as any brake based traction system would. My friends with locked rigs do far better than I.

Ah, I don’t drive in snow so I wasn’t aware it was an issue for ATRAC.

You're search sounds like mine. In my case I was looking for a classic silver Off-Road because I wanted the cloth (I wear shorts year round and Softex sucks with shorts) BUT I didn't want a moon roof AND I wanted KDSS. There were ZERO in North America and ZERO in allocation when I started looking. I told the dealer I wasn't in a hurry and asked that they check allocation periodically. They agreed but told me that the build spec I was looking for was like trying to find a unicorn. I was like ok, lets give it some time. About two weeks later I got a call from my dealer saying that Toyota had built my unicorn. Only one though and it was destined for a dealer in the north east (I'm in Los Angeles). Fortunately they were able to swing a trade with the dealer and get my unicorn. If you can't find what you're looking for on a lot then find a dealer that's willing to check the allocation periodically and cross your fingers.

 

I tried A-TRAC for the first time and wasn't impressed at all. Crossing a deep washout at a 45 degree angle while going up a slight hill. For shits and giggles I tried it without anything and off course was immediately brought to a stop. Backed off and turned A-TRAC on and rolled forward into the trench and the 4R just lurched, shook and made lots of noise for about 10 seconds before I couldn't stand it anymore. Backed off, turned A-TRAC off and the locker on and crawled it without any tire slip, hesitation or funky noises. I'll take a rear locker over computer controlled traction devices any day!

 

In fairness, the visual in my head as you described the situation seems pretty extreme. A-TRAC is good for more mundane situations. Unless the visual in my head of your situation is incorrect.

 

When you think of a 4Runner you think of capability, not getting to the grocery store. A 4Runner that doesn’t even have 4X4 is like an Aston Martin that can’t go that fast. But yeah of course a person can still like a 2X4 4Runner or an Aston Martin that isn’t that fast.

 

Yes, it may have been. Both the right front and left rear tires had absolutely zero traction (dangling in air). The computer would have needed to fully lock both of those tires for an extended amount of time to get power to the tires with traction and move the rig far enough to clear the trench. I don't know if it will do that. I'm guessing the computer will only apply the brakes for short increments in an attempt to get the vehicle to make forward progress. Perhaps if I let it try to grind it out longer maybe it figures it out. I just didn't like all of the noises so I backed off.

 

I doubt that. I guarantee there are rural grocery stores somewhere in Pakistan or Zimbabwe that you would need a 4WD to get to. So if you ever vacation to those places and bring your 2wd 4R with you, you’d be pretttty screwed.
