I have an 18 TRD OR with the manual transfer case for 4wd. When I got home yesterday, I put it in park and decided to shift through the different modes just to get familiar with the shifting patterns and how easy it would be. I was able to go into H2 and H4 with no issues. I swung over to N and L4 with no issues either. However, when I tried to swing it back over to H4, it wouldn’t shift. The actual handle was stuck and wouldn’t move over. I fiddled with it for a few minutes, but nothing. It would go back to N and L4, but I couldn’t pull it down and to the left. I decided to put the car in drive and try. When I put it in drive it made a weird noise, which is difficult to explain. However, it became unstuck and I was able to shift it back. I put it back in park and went inside. This morning I didn’t notice anything wrong with the car, so I figure it’s fine. Can anyone explain to me what the hell I did wrong? Thanks!

You weren't moving from H2 to H4 and you weren't in neutral from H4 to L4. Basically the transfer case needs to be slightly in motion to engage / disengage under most circumstances. The noise (and clunk, if you got one) into and out of L4 are normal as well. If all else fails read the instructions on the sunvisor.
