Drop the housing first, then drop the pan plug. While the pan is draining, the housing will also drain. Brake clean the housing cap, new filter, all good to go. BTW, looking into the metal housing to replace the cheap plastic housing. Well worth the $25.00 it costs.

I have one oil pan to catch the oil. It’s either the housing first or the drain plug first. I usually drain the oil pan first so I can pull the skid to access the housing. Once the oil pan is drained I put the plug and gasket on and tighten it down while the housing drains. It just takes longer for the housing to drain so I end up surfing TW or something while I wait. It’s just a gripe I have.

Not my first oil change under a 4Runner. I also never use brake clean, I just use paper towels to wipe the surfaces down and clean the inside of the filter housing out.

Brake clean inside the cover is fine. I wouldn't use it on the housing that's attached to the engine though. I of course give it time to evaporate before I put everything back together.

Nice, I had the Cali Led bar on my Tacoma. A lot easier to install than the 4Runner. I’m not ready to pull off my front bumper to install one. Question on your install. Did you run your wire thru the firewall and use one of your black switches to use a push button to turn them on. That is how I had my Tacoma setup. I got the black push button from Amazon. It had Led light on the front of it. Any install help would be great. Have not seen how anyone ran the wire inside to turn light on. Thanks.

You can avoid draining it and just take the housing off, leaving the drain plug in place. A little more messy but way faster. You can also put your hand inside a big ziploc and grab the loosened housing with that, as the oil starts coming out it flows into the bag which catches most of it.

4runner 1.jpg 4runner 3.jpg 4runner.jpg 4runner 4.jpg I need some advise!! I plasti dipped by TRD Off Road emblem to gunmetal grey. I did not like the brighter grey that they use. So please take a look and give me opinions in the following:

!. The color, should I just go with black?
    2. Should I remove the dip that is inside the letters the D and the O, R O D. I think it looks a more solid with some of the letters filled in.
    3. Ok I dipped the front Toy logo black which I do like, but what should go with on the back?
    a. All Black
    b. Keep the chrome
    c. All Gunmetal
    d. Toy logo black and 4runner gunmetal

Has anyone removed the Off Road and just leave the TRD?

    I will take all opinions. 4runner 1.jpg4runner 3.jpg4runner.jpg4runner 4.jpg

I like the way it looks. Just use a toothpick to peel it off the paint in between the letter to make it look cleaner.

Ok I went gunmetal on the back and I did not like the way the Toy logo came out and I scratched the plastic trying to get some of the paint out of the center. So I went black on the logo. So the theme is black logo’s and gunmetal verbiage.
