(I did a search but didn't find any other recent threads on this topic.)

I was at the dealer's yesterday. He showed me a list (looked official) indicating that factory production in August will begin the 2019 model year for 4Runner TRD Off Road trim. Because it takes about a month for vehicles to be shipped from Japan and clear the East Coast port of entry, the 2019s won't begin arriving at dealers before September.

He also seemed very confident that there are no significant changes from 2018; the 6th gen will be a 2020 model year change.

Who knows if any of this is true, but that's the latest I've heard from a large dealer.

I'd be shocked if anyone knew any news about the 6th gen, I'd also be shocked if it were a body on frame vehicle anyway since most of them are becoming fuel efficient unibodies (like we don't have enough of them already).

the major changes T4R before the last US election were out by toyota from people working the the auto magazine business.. uni body smaller engine no frame etc....

so why did toyota put out 2020 to make the 6th gen ??? IMO the Democrats will kill this gas guzzler..

because toyota will be ready to do the change if the DIMMS WIN .....

this vehicle is a climate change danger according to the DIMMS.. also I will expect them to put a carbon tax on our vehicles...if they win in 2020..

this 6th gen has been going on for several years .... Toyota surely knows that the 6th gen is not gonna sell as well as the 5th.

I was told the 2019 4runner model allocations will start at the end of July with production starting in August. September/October East Coast dealer arrivals seem accurate.
Re 6th gen; We have been hearing rumors for how many years now? :crapstorm:

2019 should be available in October east coast ..this will be the last year Toyota makes the 4Runner as it is now a truck not a uni body SUV..2020..

things change so perhaps Toyota may push back on this change if the rules changes..

All speculation. You make these statements as if they are fact. You have no idea what the 2020 4Runner will be.

my info is not a dream .. I get info from the financial global networks .. certain US regulations on MPG will cause the change in how these vehicles will be manufactured. also Toyota will start fabricating these in the US in a few years..

obviously these laws and EPA regs may change so not rock solid on how it plays out ..
this 6th gen 4runner change on uni body has been going on for years due to the EPA/MPG regs ..

California is a big problem with these gas guzzlers ...more carbon more fires ..LOL..

I doubt anyone on a truck forum gives a shit about your imbecilic political views. As for the rest of your foolish info,it is of course WRONG. Mileage stds are based on a manufacturers fleet. Toyota has some of the most mileage friendly cars made. The 4runner could get 5-mpg and not be a problem. Try turning off faux so-called news and getting some actual ,factual info. Though I doubt that will happen, dolts enjoy their doltishness.

fox news ???? all they talk about is stupid stupid CNN is worse !

toyota trucks have the worst MPG ...not my opinion ..this is an EPA issue...toyota must increase MPG on these ..

So will Lamborghini's and Ferrari's cease to exist in the USA in 2020 then? What about the Ford Raptor? Jeep Rubicon? These all get worse gas mileage than a 4Runner.

I am only interested in the 4runner vehicle ..

perhaps the EPA will place a carbon tax on any vehicle that does not pass the MPG regulations..my senators both have stated carbon taxes on vehicles with MPG not meeting the MPG standards .. I do not recommend to buy a GM truck but those trucks do have much higher mpg than these toyota trucks ... GM engine design does work great for the MPG ..
the problem is the GM engines fail soon after the warranty ends ..many have had to pay $7k for a new engine ..

5th gen is the best vehicle I have ever owned .. never back to dealership no defects ..

it was reported that the MPG/emission regs may be changed to delay the increased MPG regs until 2026..
next week we will know if this will be changed , but it must also be approved ..

Vehicle regulations from a federal perspective are based on a manufacturer's average MPG for all of its vehicles it produces and not by a single vehicle's MPG. That is (for example) if a manufacturer made only two vehicles--say, a car and a truck--and was required federally to average 25 MPG, then the truck could average 15 MPG and the car could average 35 MPG, keeping the manufacturer in compliance with federal mandates. A state (e.g. California) may have its own taxing requirements, such as a carbon tax, but that does not affect the manufacturer (generally speaking), and is not related to federal law on vehicle MPG mandates. While California has a waiver in place to create its own, higher standards, the same principle applies. Further, while California certainly is a large consumer (of everything), the 4Runner is a high demand vehicle in which there is typically a shortage. Dealers are allocated handfuls of 4Runners quarterly, and (at least here in Colorado) there is usually a wait list for the higher end 4Runner (e.g. TRD PROs, etc.). California emission standards, waiver or not, will not dictate demand for the 4Runner.

Toyota has been one of the forerunners (pun very much intended) on creating a lineup of fuel efficient vehicles, and has been for plus/minus 25 years. A very large number of their vehicles have a hybrid version, and all of their gas-only vehicles (trucks excluded to some degree) have undergone changes to make them more fuel efficient (e.g., better engines, lower body weight, etc.). Highly doubtful Toyota is worried about US MPG or California MPG mandates. Before I owned my 4Runner, I drove a Toyota Avalon Hybrid and was amazed at the MPGs I could get. Some drives I was in the 60s and 70s with respect to MPGs. Overall, I averaged around 49 MPG in the car, and it's a full-size car. I can't imagine what the Prius, et al., can attain.

Short version: TV shows are designed to keep your eyes glued to the screen so that you can watch the commercial from the providers of that show's income. The words that come out of some TV show personality's mouth is usually (not always, I concede) his or her muckraking, sensationalism generating opinion designed to keep your eyes stuck to the screen.

Will the 4Runner change; will it not change? Who the heck knows, but if it does, it won't be from some MPG law, says this muckraking, sensationalism generating blogger.

    Joseph.

Toyota 2019 Pricing.jpg On July 27, Toyota USA released the 2019 price schedule for the 4Runner (above). As mentioned previously, production on or after August 1 will be model year 2019 vehicles. With shipping transit times, dealers should see vehicles in September.

If indeed this price list is for real, when will the order banks open up? I'd like to start the worst part of getting a new ride asap: negotiating with dealer.

Not sure why Toyota would post a phony price list, but I guess anything is possible (the URL is at the top of the photo, so folks can check it out).
You have to scroll through several pages of press releases to get back to June 22, which is when the list was first published, then click to download the file. It didn't have 2019 4Runner prices on June 22, but the July 26 update included them.

I don't plan to contact my dealer until some of the vehicles have cleared customs and begun arriving at the dealers' lots.

FYI i just purchased a ORP (8/1) and was deciding between a black and blue. The blue was made 5/18 the black 6/18, the Black had a $200 price increase from the manufacture. Dealer said they that Toy sometimes does this. They took care of it but i was surprised of a price increase of a out going model, I guess they are getting ready. Suxs.

If Toyota does kill the 5th gen, I expect many with old 4Runners will get the 2019 .sales will be at the max and Toyota only can manufacturer a limited amount ..prices will rise and dealerships in cali will tack on more $$$ because of availability/demand ..

possible with a change in MPG regs lower , it may run another year ..
fleet MPG is 37MPG epa regs... yr 2020..

I must be technically challenged. I wonder why the dolt I spoke with at Toy corp had zero info? Does this mean I can go to the dreaded dealer and order now?

That Toyota press release site has over 2,000 pages. You have to move to the 4th or 5th page back to get to the June 22 price listing.

I think a call to your dealer could answer your question...each dealer may handle pre-orders differently.

I never seen that happen .. but if I lived in Cali that would not happen ...

I've purchased 2 Tacomas and a RAV4 via the internet. I send a detailed description of the vehicle I want to multiple dealers and ask that they send a description of their closest match and their offering price, ex TT&L. I pick the offer I feel is best and don't try to negotiate a lower price, as promised in my email.

The two I've purchased here in Richmond, I went to the dealership to deliver the cashier's check, sign the paperwork, and pick up the vehicle. In Colorado, the dealer put the vehicle on a trailer and delivered it from their dealership in Utah. I gave the them a cashier's check and signed the paperwork at 8pm on a snowy night in a Walmart parking lot. I've never once tried to "negotiate" a deal face to face.

I've already prepared my email to purchase a 2019 TRD O/R. I'll send it when the dealers have received a good supply of vehicles. I'll offer them the choice of proposing a 2018 or 2019 model, assuming there turn out to be no changes.

well these forums are not about political views or news network idiots.. the federal laws concerning vehicle MPG standards will effect the vehicles we prefer.. so the elected politicians create these laws/regulations ..

members should be aware of these reg changes because it will certainly effect this low MPG vehicle on manufacturing design..
this is for sure an odd suv with a truck frame ...also it does weigh 5,000 LBS... heavy suv truck ..

Sales manager at local Toyota dealership confirms that the 2019 4Runner is unchanged as far as outdated NAV, underpowered motor, old transmission, and underwhelming Entune system. He suspects 2020 should be changed as the present setup is not current. The vehicle sells because of tremendous reliability. Period.
