Driver side wheel forward???

Hi folks, I need an idea what happened to my front driver side wheel. I just did a service at dealership and they installed new TRD wheels with new tires. I noticed that driver side front wheel started to rub in front at the full right turn. Tires are stock size. I can visually see that driver side front wheel has more gap behind and less in front comparing to passenger side wheel. Do you have any idea what those a-holes did wrong?

 

Don't the TRD wheels have a different offset than the stock ORP wheels?

 

Yes, but on both sides the same wheels. Driver side wheel visually sits differently comparing to passenger side. It looks like it was moved forward by about an half inch

 

There’s a specific service straight from Toyota with descriptions on how and where to cut the bumper when installing TRD wheels. Any car with TRD wheels comes with bumpers chopped ever so slightly at the bottom. If I find it I’ll send it. Or someone else might know of it.

Was it aligned recently? Castor way off?

 

No, it was not aligned. Do you think alignment could fix it? Do I need to align after new shoes are on?

 

Possibly. When I had mine aligned I had them max the castor out which pushes the tires forward (there's more to it than that but I'm keeping it simple) mine is set at 3.0 and 3.3 degrees and it pushed the tires forward a bit. So much so that I'm pretty close to my front bumper while turning... I'm running a 0 offset wheel and 255/75 tires.

 

I'm not sure how you think you're measuring with accuracy of less than half an inch by picking a random spot on the tire, a random spot on the mud flap, and a soft measuring tape, but it looks fine. The measurement you're trying to describe is caster. It's adjusted when you perform an alignment.

In this case, as previously mentioned, Toyota has a TSB for cutting the bumper when TRD Pro wheels and their accompanying aggressive off road tires are installed. If you don't follow the tsb, they can rub. Neither the bumper or the alignment are perfectly symmetrical. You can rub on just one side

 

yes get an alignment. This happened to me after an accident repair on my 2017 taco, with the pro rims. It took me a few days of sifting through the bull sit answers from the dealership and body shop. My favorite was when I was told the body panels move and that’s why the tires were not right.

 

What? Fabric tapes are super reliable, lol.

He may as well measure with his finger, would get a more accurate comparison.

I agree it's not bad. Even trusting the measurement (which I don't), you're looking at 0.25" difference. And if this is caster related, know that by default vehicles have different caster on each side to help with driving straight with the road crown (the slant of the lane).

 

I would get an alignment after new wheels and tires. The TRD wheels do have a different offset, pushing the tire out 1/2" +/- I believe. Vikings Garage just did a video on doing the trim.
Different tire but stock size could also be a tad larger, more tread on the very corner of the tire if that makes sense.
