What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

That explains why you want a catch can for sure. As far as the "head gasket replacement every 100k or so", is that specifically on the gen 5 4Runner, because all of the long term reviews I've seen have not mentioned any issue like that. I've seen reports of gen 4 head gaskets but not gen 5.

 

I installed one on mine, not a JLT, but a generic one off Amazon. Including the hoses and angle bracket I got at the hardware store, I'm all in for about $35. Judging by what gets collected inside my can, I would definitely recommend one of these for every 4Runner. There are a lot more expensive doo dads people buy for their 4Runners that don't do anything.

 

Correct, the 4th gen and Tacomas got head gasket leaks more often with the TRD/Maggie supercharger, as early as 90k. The 5th gen Maggie has been out only around 2018, not long enough for many to log 100k with it. Hopefully HG leaks won't be as frequent.

replaced amber ditch light nylon spacers (I over tightened the 1st ones n they squished).
with the same spacers, put on dualing ditch lights.
I had the hardest time fastening the underside nuts n washers on this mod you shoulda seen me

 

I like your home made wheel protector. I used to have a plastic one that you cut to fit the diameter of your wheel but I can't find them anywhere anymore.

 

Pics of wheel wells aren't near as sexy.

Haven't done anything to the reservoir yet. I tried to keep as much of the fender liner there as I could justify, with it being unsupported at the bottom now, by about 4-5 inches. There's a plastic rivet back there, behind the reservoir. I meant to hit it with some black paint before I left the shop but forgot. I will likely spend the $ on a guard, eventually. The tire clears it, albeit not by a lot.

The clearance cut on both sides ends just below the 3rd screw up from the bottom (I think...3rd or 2nd...about in the middle.) So on the driver's side, cutting the liner down at an angle allowed me to put a screw threw the liner into a nearby body flange. It pulled the liner forward a little but no other effect.

The only other adjustment was a shallow bmc. Ugly enough to not show here. The 2nd one was a lot prettier.

These are 285/75/17's on a 0 offset wheel. I'm fairly sure that I won't have to do any more cuts. I probably could have gotten away with a much less intrusive front clearance cut, but I kinda like the look of this one.

 

Yeah I was wondering if you added a stone guard or relocated the washer fluid reservoir, since it's a lot more exposed now after cutting the bumper cover.

Yesterday took new Polaris for 1st ride.

 

I thought I had grn 30A fuses in all my inline fuse holders. Nope! There was a 5A hiding on the Ditch light circuit, I pulled 8A. It worked for 20sec lol


replaced with 15A fuse

The stock TRD off-road wheels are great, but there's a problem, unlike the Rubicon they can't take 35/12.50s. That's a good thing for me though, otherwise I would be tempted to go 35s
