I know it’s been asked a million times and I’ve gone through almost the threads on this topic. What setting would get me level, Is the idea to level it or to have a slight nose down like OEM?

2018 4R non KDSS TRD OR

I read that 1.75” front and 1” cornfed spacer is “level” it looks like these Bilsteins 6112 have 1.85”. So would 1.85 and 1” cornfed rear with stock coil give me a sweet look? I’ll be putting on 275’s KO2 with the Black TRD wheels

2.21” is too high for me, maybe at a later date. Also I would probably need a rear coil for that height and no spacer

1.5 with 1” cornfed , will that be more nose down than the 1.85?

Some say .79 and no spacer in the rear

Then there is a 1.14” setting.

So what would y’all suggest and what combo have you done? Just need some fresh confidence before I start this install soon!

When I get the install sheet from the bilstein site for 4R, it says different than your sheet.

That is odd. I just picked up mine today as well. I check the version number, the website one says 8.17.17

Ok here is an update. Installed my front 6112’s and used the setting 5 drivers and 3 passenger.

One thing to note, Bilstein changed their configurations from the 2015 instructions revision (which by the way were included in the box!) the online install instruction revision as of 8/2017! So they changed the spacing config from 1 c clip space difference between the driver and passenger to 2 c clip spacing.

    F0DD4148-E432-40C0-B5D1-571E2EEF64A6.jpg

As you can see the spacing is changed in the newest. I guess this makes the drivers side “lean” go away.
    F1C3745D-FDF3-4FF2-99FC-4AD5747917DC.jpg

So I did mine at 1.6” setting according to that diagram and so far no changes in the rear. I’m actually waiting for the Cornfed spacer for the passenger.

Passenger side is .9”, drivers is 1.1” so it’s suppose to level it out. You can see it lean here in the front, even despite having the 5/3 setting on the Bilstein.

    5EF37894-4D00-4878-9633-A47BE7925084.jpg

Here you can see it’s level according to the fenders at 22” both front and rear. That’s 2” increase in the front from stock and the new tires gained 1/2”

    D45810FD-D244-47CD-8888-A88B5458A798.jpg

You can see it sags in the back about 1/2 the entire span of the 4Runner

Looks awesome! I’ll throw in the 5160’s in a few days!

The install so soooo easy, took over a half day first time but I only had to remove the 2 bolts next to the bottom ball joint, and losened the camber lower arm adjuster. That’s it! The shock slipped up through and I used a bottle jack to jack up the control arm to compress the spring. Super easy. Could have went faster with 2 people

Kept stock upper control arms? Handling and alignment good?
I'm considering that 1.6" setting for front but also doing 1.5" rear lift.

Yes handling excellent, even better than the stock since I changed out the bubbly wallowing stock tires and now a nice suspension. 265 KO2, C rating. Stock UCA ( don’t waste the money changing them)

1.5” in the rear will give you a bit more rake. I’m trying to get my rear lift in this week! Just bought a used don’t make em like they use to floor jack. Now I have 2. I need some larger jack stands.

Here you can see the diff in the passenger and drivers Cornfed 1” spacer

So you only got 0.9-1.1" lift using the 1.6 settings? Or you actually did get about 1.5" from the suspension using the 1.6 setting?

I got 2” lift increase (20” to 22”) in the front using the 1.6 setting. The rear increased .5 just using the KO2 tires.

The cornfed spacers in the rear should give me at least 1.5” , as their website says spacers give you almost double height of what the actual spacer is. I should see a slight rake with this set up. The other option is to use Dobinson CXX-599 model, 1.25-1.5 coil with no spacers in the rear. I may do this down the road

How’s the Davinson coil? Are they stiffer? Or comfortable as the stock?

Any aftermarket coil will be slightly stiffer than OEM from what I’ve researched. The Dobinson was the only one that closely matches the OEM with slightly more stiffness than the OEM without getting too Stiff. Most people running the 3” lifts get the 1.5 or 3” coils and they will be a lot more stiff and rugged. I think the rating is around 500 lbs, 650,lbs, 700-900 lbs. the pounds is the measurement for the spring to compress 1”

An OEM spring is probably less than 650 but more than 500, so loading in an 800lb thingy would compress the OEM coil probably more than a couple inches. Where if you had the 900 lbs spring, wouldn’t compress much, hence the stiffness factor

fyi: Per the guy I spoke to from King Shocks, oem front on 4R is 550lb spring.

Good to know that the 1.6 setting really will be close to that amount of lift.

My 4R is within 1/4" of being level per the frame right now fully stock. Per the wheelwells, there is about 1.25" rake. Thinking I want to keep the frame level but can't decide if I want to do a 1.5" or 2" lift.
Option 1: 6112 front at the 1.6 settings with Wheelers T13 rear springs.
Option 2: 6112 at 2 setting with Toytec superflex rear springs.

The back seems a bit mushy to me stock so I'm ok with going to slightly stiffer springs back there.
And I'll use the Bilstein 5160 rear shocks either way.

Want to keep a nice ride on the road and don't want to have to get UCAs to maintain handling/alignment.

Keep in mind that the 5160/6112 set up have better shock absorption than the 5100’s. The shock body is larger, 60 mm and is able to absorb much better. The shock does more of the work making the ride “kushier” . The 5100’ rely too much on the coil and most of the performance is based on coil not shock.

I’ll see how the 5160’s and OEM coils go before I decide to get another coil.

Darn! I just stopped at harbor freight to get a better jack and those same stands!! PC does refer to Park City but in SLC. Doing the lift in the rear tonight!

Thank you for the offer as well!

All done. The cornfed spacers gave me exactly 1” lift. So I have 22” front and 23” rear from center hub. I’ll drive it in the morning and settle the shocks

Here it is! I have some squeak coming from the right rear now!! What could it be? The only bolts I removed were the rear sway bar and removed the shocks and coils. I was super careful lowering the axle and didn’t streach any wires. Torqued everything to spec

I’m wondering if I just re tighten/reset the bolts it will go away?

    Rear 23”

I tried bouncing and couldn’t reproduce it. It only appears when driving certain repeatitive bumps. Probably the spacers uh... they are a hard plastic type material. Maybe a good bounce wheeling might set it in or something

Where did you find torque specs for rear? I didn't have any luck finding it. Is it a file you can post here?

There are 2 PDFS, the one here is not the Toyota one. Try searching the other 4Runner site

Are there any out there that has the same issue with cornfed spacers at the rear that makes squishy noise?

My reasoning it because I didn’t want to lift more than 1.5” total. All the aftermarket coils are either stiffer, and/or made for 1.5”-3” lift. I wanted to stay under this.

I think it’s fine now. Make sure you install the cornfed spacers tight to the OEM coil bushing. You have to push down while cranking on the socket ratchet to make sure the lag bolt that comes with the cornfed is tight. The other tip is when you are putting the coil back in, make sure it’s seating square , not at an angle

When I pulled out the rear coil, I made to be super careful not to lower the axle too far because you have ABS and other wiring that’s connected to it. The trick is to get the 4 runner up really high, and despite having 24” jack stands, and the axle as low as I could go, I had to use the spring compressor to get the coils in/out. Specially when you have the spacer on. It’s a bit tough getting the coil back in.
