preparing for a near future lift and ordered my TRD black wheels. The wheels will be here next week and I was contemplating leaving the stock tires on, 265’s or fork out the money to get some 275’s which will work on the stock lift until I get the lift installed in Late June/July.

    Nittos don’t come in 275, only 270
KO2’s look nice and have 275

Any other tire brand suggestions in the 275 size? Looking for a good balance between daily driver and off road. I don’t want to sacrifice all smoothness of a toad tire but need ability to Off Road and snow/mud situations

I’m staying stock height for now. Am just about to pull the trigger on falken atw3s in stock size. I’ve read a lot of good things, don’t rock crawl, and the price is good.

I've had the AT3's for about 12k miles now, no complaints. I run them at about 44psi, they are wearing evenly and ride just fine. My MPG's are at 19.

I'll go up to 275's when the time comes unless I find a deal on wider wheels to accommodate 285's.

Is there any concern using the KO2 275’s on the TRD pro black OEM wheel? I read that the width is /could be a bit too narrow for 275’s??

Discount tire said the wheel could wear in the center more and they’ll look bubblier

Anyone have issues with the TRD wheels and 275’s?

I am running these with 285/70/17 Falken M/T tires, and have no problems with wear. I run 44 psi front & 38 rear.image.jpg

Thank you! Any regards in the higher E rating tire vs C? I’m concerned about stiffness and just a heavier tire than I need. I like the ko2’s But should I scrafice other elements for a look of the 275’s when maybe I should stay with 265 ? 1.75 lift next week. Just didn’t want the tires to look small. The 275’s arent really that much larger, but the 10 ply vs 6 or whatever worries me. Something I didn’t consider till now.

Have you looked at the General Grabber AT2’s? I’m about 99% sure these are the ones I’m going with.

They are a 4ply sidewall so for my needs that should be just fine, their “light” at 42lbs each (265/70/17) and have a 60k mile warranty.

I’ll be doing the majority of my miles on paved roads and weekends on dirt, gravel, some rocks (not too crazy) at some local trails.

Did I mention they are pretty inexpensive too? Seems like a good option for my big trip to Canada end of summer.

Did you order the OEM Toyota TRD 17x7" or the Aftermarket TRD wheel that is 17x8"?

    OEM TRD Wheels - 17x7" and 275s

    Aftermarket TRD - 17x8" and 285s

The 285s are not recommended to mount on a narrow 7" wide wheel. (I know, a lot of people do) Personally, I don't think they look right either with too much "Bulge" and potentially wear more on the center of the tire.

I think your fine with C loads, i just tend to overkill on stuff, i also think you will like the 275's if you are going to lift it. So i guess what i'm sayin is, stick to your plan. Make it look, and ride like you want not anybody else......well except for your wife or ?

If you are asking me? I went with oem with 285/70/17 Falken M/Ts with none of the problems you mention so far, but hey, stuff changes as time goes on.

I had the Grabbers on in 265/70/17 when the wife was driving the Runner, and i also had them on my 02 Runner. They are very good tires, and they last forever, she really liked them, but like i said in another post, i tend to overkill a little. I just like the beefier look on the Runner, and it feels great i think.

I wasn't aware of the different widths! I just checked and I have the 17x7's. I went to the dealer and looked at some of the upgraded models down there.

They had a TRD PRO with icon lift and UCAs, probably a 3" lift, and it had 285's KO2's with the TRD wheels, Not sure if it was the 8 or 7"
Another TRD pro had the 265 Nittos' All Terrian and I measured the lift. It was 22.5 " rear and 21 " front from center of hub cap to fender. My stock measured at 21.5 rear and 20 front with the same 265 tires (Dunlop). So the front and rear was exactly 1" higher than my stock, it also had front and rear bilsteins. I've seen some TRD pro's with stock OEM shocks in the rear and bilsteins in the front, this one had both.

I think after I install my 6112/5160 Bilstein lift and set the front at 1.75 and rear 1" cornFed spacer with rear OEM coil, this should give me a bit higher in the front than this TRD, probably more leveled is all.

So in conclusion I think I am going for the 265's KO2's. Here is my reasoning.

275's come in E rating, double the weight of the same 265 size. Over time this will just wear down the parts and vehicle. For being a DD I don't need wear for no reason
    275’ will be slightly stiffer
the 265's look good, in proportion and style.
    Marginally decreased MPG
Potential rubbing with the 275's and only 1-2 inch lift
the 275's are just too heavy duty, I dont need that, plus the extra cost
The 265 will fit better on the 7" wheel vs the 275 I think...
DD 85% of the time, need it for snow in the winter and ability to off road and get unstuck
The 275's are only a tiny bit larger, I think the aggressiveness of the tread on the 265 already will make it look bigger than a 265 road tire.

I was debating on Nitto's all terrian vs KO2's. The tire shop has the KO2's in stock ready to go and they have the highest ratings. I figure I can't go wrong there.

    wish me luck!

Thank you! I was thinking of the wife and decided to do 265’s!!!

My goal was not to make it look like a monster truck and not to scrafice standard handling as much as possible, hence the OEM size tire and 1.5” lift. The 10 ply 275 vs 6 ply 265, is 8 lbs per tire. C rating (6 ply) is more than I’ve ever had on my past vehicles so I’m already ahead.

I think after I experiencing the 1.5-2” lift and 265’s then I can increase the lift (Bilsteins!) down the road to 3” , get UCA’s and the 275’s!!!

If it makes any difference (food for thought), I think the original 265s that came on mine are E Rated.

I noticed that as well, there are E and C rating in the 265. I think the price differences were about $30 per tire

Alrighty here we are with 265’s! Just the quick drive back from the tire place, it does hit bumps a bit harder but otherwise drives nice. Haven’t put it much to the test yet.

    265/70/17 KO2’s
    C rating (6 ply)

With the rear weighted down with 4 tires and wheels, you can see it’s leveled. This might help anyone for lifting and the debate on leveling or keeping a slight OEM rake. Personally I would want a slight nose down rake for when you have gear and a couple of people in the back you’ll be level.

Not for long though. Lift installing this weekend!!

Cool man. I've got about 3500 miles on my ko2s, and i dig em. They do real well when you put the lever in fun mode also ;) not sure what pressure your running, but I played around with mine, and really like how they are behaving on and off asphalt.

Go play on some trails this weekend... enjoy, be safe, and have a ball

You have made some wise decisions. Load range C max for our Toyota's, E is overkill and hits your MPG's big time. Your lift is also smart, keep 1" front rake, reverse rake looks stupid.

Any update and pics on your TRD? I am new here and, right now, drive 90% to work and back on smooth streets... However, I plan on taking my 4R on some trails on long weekends here and there when I get the chance! That's why I bought it :) Are you satisfied with your BFG 265 choice after your lift?

Could try 255/75/17's. I am stock, no lift, and I have the BFG KO2's in the stock size. Love them and they are C rated like the stock tires. But if I was to lift it I would lean towards the 255/75/17's.

I could have done the 275’s with the same lift and it would have looked good as well. You can see it would just give it a bit stockier look. My goal was not to make it a monster truck. Now that I’ve had it like this I may consider 275’s and increase the lift by .5” (since I have the Bilstein adjustable :) on the next set of tires down the road. The KO2’s are amazing tires btw.

Mine is exactly 2” higher than stock and 1” higher than a stock TRD PRO from the dealer.

I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Larger tires will affect gas mileage and wear and tear just like any mod would. Nominal though....

You’ll like it. To recap my lift I did the
6112/5160 Bilstein lift and set the front at 1.65 and rear 1" cornFed spacer with rear OEM coil.
