Too much lift!!! Time to lower my 4Runner...

But I got the lift for ground clearance and man it helped a ton. I did the same trails before and after the lift and tires. Oh the difference that it made...
Where I was dragging over obstacles and lifting wheels I was now easily driving through without issue.

 

I refer to the more absurd lifts. 6+ inches with huge tires and extremely negative offset wheels. Think Hawaiian haha.

Nothing wrong with modifying for your application but I don't understand the application of a 6" lift.
Any more than three doesn't make much sense to me. Hence why I'm lowering mine half an inch

 

Do you have info on 5100's compressed and extended length to compare to the stock shocks?

This thread is killing me, as I sit here with some 2884s waiting to install. Shooting for 2.5" in the front and 1.5" in the rear. Appreciating the info @1SilverRunner.

What setup are you going to use in the rear?

 

I've got Dobinsons C59-505s for the rear and have some fox 2.0s that I'll try back there. It should be 1.5-1.75" of lift. The front is getting Dobinsons IMS 574s, but they are backordered so the wait continues. I still have to decide on tires and which gear ratio to install, so I'm not in a big rush anyway. Just piecing this project together as funds permit...

I had read this post and was interested because I haven't bought a lift kit yet for my 2023 ORP. The OME Nitro shocks listed 90010 don't seem to be listed on ARBUSA anymore? Are they being discontinued? I hope not because they seemed to be more reasonably priced than the ones with a remote reservoir.

Edit: The nitrocharger kit is one of the best for the money. Buyer beware though it is a little rough unloaded on the street.

Where the nitrocharger kit shines is holding weight and being built to last. If you're big into camping or overlanding into remote areas this kit is a good match.

If you want a budget option that is a little softer on the street, with more adjustability, I'd recommend a bilstein kit.

Either way, do plenty of research before you make the investment.

 

Forgive my ignorance. Your PDF is dated 2021. As I visit the ARBUSA website and punch in for my 2023 4 runner ORP as the vehicle search it doesn't seem to list the same nitro shocks? If I word search your 2021 document for those 90010 models I found a listing 2010 beyond 4 runner. Odd that it's not an option to buy with the ARB website? Reason I was wondering if they had been discontinued. Maybe old stock floating around or meant for a previous model year 2015 and earlier? Here is the site I went to look for your shocks.

Not sure why that particular shock is not on their website. It’s certainly still available from distributors and I haven’t seen anything about it being discontinued.

As far as your question regarding the 2015 year model I believe the suspension architecture hasn’t changed from 2010 - 2024

 

I had the same thought as well. You never know exactly what changes can happen year to year. I had been surprised not to see that 90010 listed as recommended for a 2023 model year. I assumed all 5th gens were the same OR that they finally discontinued the line and the old stock is being sold by various vendors still till it's gone.

 

Results are in!

Switched out the springs yesterday and I’ve put about 120 miles on them. The springs are still settling so I’ll give it another day before taking measurements. By looks alone it does seem like the rig sits just a little lower.

What I’m most excited about is how different it handles; it is much smoother over bumps and rough roads. In hindsight the 2887/2889 may have been a touch oversprung. The 2885/2895 feel a lot more compliant and comfortable. Like the rig is suddenly allowed to use more suspension travel.

Next steps are to log some more miles and break in the springs. Once they settle I will take measurements and do additional lean corrections as needed.

It’s worth noting I did install OME’s lean corrections spacers front and rear (OME95PF5/150PR10 respectively.) The rig is visually level as it sits now.

So far I’m very happy with the ride quality and height.

This equates to +3.25” front lift/ 2.5” rear lift. Very happy I put in the work for this spring swap! Can’t wait to hit the dirt and see how it handles the trails.

So you got close to the same amount of lift as you had? I take it the coil will settle a little.

 

Droop will remain the same. I did not change the shocks, just the springs.

 

I think you're right, the coils will likely continue to settle.

As far as lowering the rig, the front passenger side dropped almost a full inch after the spring swap. I had four inches of lift there; I'm much happier at +3.25"

The height now is very close to my estimate based off of spring specs. CV boots don't look to stressed here and I still have a good amount of clearance even loaded up with gear.

Overall these coils seem to be a better match for these shocks as the ride (especially in the front) softened up quite a bit.

 

Before the spring swap.
4" front lift on the passenger side
2.75" rear lift on the passenger side

 

After spring swap.
3.25" front lift
2.5" rear lift

 

Hitting some local trails after work today to see how it handles rough roads and corrugations.

 

This is a very helpful thread. I am currently trying to find the right combination of lift for my overlanding/daily driver needs. I really appreciate the pics! The lowered version definitely looks better.

Glad it helped you. The only reason I decided to document this was to help other people with similar issues. Seems like a lot of people are using the wrong springs with their OME kits. (Or at least springs that ARB does not recommend)

 

Off-topic question...how is the noise with the LFD crossbars w/o the wind fairing?
