That shouldn't be a problem. And they're less likely to screw up a drive shaft lube than an oil change.

 

I had to buy a 2nd fob and have it programmed. I bought my 2020 used and it only came with one. Was charged ~$450 for the fob and programming. If I wanted the additional emergency key included, it was another $125 for the key and to have it cut. No thanks!

 

The dealer quoted me $300 for the fob/key with $16 cutting of the key.

 

...........since the dealer got me the fob and key they charged me $173 to cut the key and program the fob. Too much IMHO but if I lose a fob I'm not SOL since I have the 2nd fob available.

 

I have seen a variety of experiences with this mentioned on forums. Some people say the dealership has no clue about this, some say it has been no problem, others have said the dealer claimed to do it but did not. For the avoidance of any doubt, I bought a grease gun and lock-n-lube and do the grease work myself, along with oil changes and anything else I can reasonably do myself to keep the dealership service department as far away from my 4Runner as possible.

 

These dealer fobs/keys seem really expensive. I have seen local locksmiths advertise their fob and key services. Has anyone gotten a quote from an independent locksmith? Maybe that would be a more economical option?

Agreed...Dealership is useful to me for parts and only any warranty work if ever needed.
I have very little trust in any of them for anything else.

 

I looked at that but then heard that they can sell you the fob but can't program it and Toyota won't program what they don't sell. Check with your stealership first to see if they will program a fob they didn't provide.

Its proper name is “drive shaft” 4Runners do not have a propeller. Just a FYI.

 

You won't find "drive shaft" in the manual, but you will find "propeller shaft".

Same here. Two fobs last November when I bought it so "issues" may be resolved

 

Added two waterproof, dustproof storage bins from Harbor Freight, Apache brand. Bolted them from the inside to prevent theft. Also added grab handles on both sides from GPCA.

Slick topped it today. I've used that rack+basket a couple of times and while it is handy, it's infrequent enough that I'm opting to ditch it, for now. In the future I may get some Outgear low profile RTT crossbars and a wedge RTT.

Replaced a defective Meso Customs Map Light kit. Meso is on top of things and sent out a replacement, got it in two days!

 

Maybe 60 pounds total. I can lift it by myself no problem
