JBL Speaker Thread

OK, so this is going to be an ongoing project that I am putting together for my girlfriend. She has a 2013 4runner limited with a Kenwood DMX8709S and JBL 12" sub in a ported box that was installed by a reputable audio shop. It sounds amazing. I didn't mess with installing that since running those wires and doing a nice job of hiding it was something that I felt was a little too time consuming and might put me in over my head, should I run into some tight spots.

Now that we've taken care of that, I'm going to start replacing the speakers, front to back. I've done a lot of these on many different vehicles that are plug and play with harness' and never had any issues. She wants to stick with JBL all the way through. I've checked Crutchfield and my question is will the JBL CLUB3020 3.5″ fit up front with a harness, without having to do much modification of the mounting area? I'm not seeing them as an option, and I wanted to see if anybody had a reason that they might not fit. Thanks in advance everybody, and I'll be sharing pictures of what the Smoke Amerilite LED's look like. Santa brought them, and she loved them.

If those won't fit, then does anybody have recommendations for a JBL 3.5" that will fit? I am not interested in adding an amp to this setup.

 

I've decided to try the

$70 JBL GX328 3-1/2" Coaxial Car Audio Loudspeakers

JBL GX328 3-1/2" Coax and see if they will fit. The car does not have the JBL upgrade, so hopefully these should bolt in with little modification/grinding to the baseplate. Also got the adapter harness. We'll know Tuesday afternoon!

You can make the OEM bracket work. Break it and use the ends. Make sure you install the capacitor on the positive side. Otherwise they ll burn out way to soon.

 

Will I need capacitors even if I'm just running from the power off the deck? I will be setting up the crossover points based on a few formulas that I've seen to avoid having the speakers try to play to low.

 

You would need the capacitors to cut the lower frequency even when running through Stock head unit.

Ok, so after over a month of back and forths, I've finally got these installed. I put these bass blockers in:

My gf on the other hand seems to think that these 3.5's are overpowering her stock door speakers until we turn the volume up really loud, where everything finally starts to even out and the door speakers wake up. I've played with the x'over and equalizer settings and she still doesn't seem to be happy. Once we replace the other 6 speakers, will everything equal back out or we still be in the same spot? And yes, I did a lot of trimming to the under side of the speaker grill but it still barely sat on top of the speaker, so I added the little bit of padding and everything worked out.

 

This is because the sensitivity and resistance of those speakers wasn't designed for your current system. Those 3.5's are playing louder than the other speakers which is throwing it off. Happened in my 2021 Rav4. As shitty as the stock speakers are-they are moderately balanced-no one speaker is overpowering. Toyota has used non-standard resistance on top of wiring in series with liftgate speakers.

 

Found out my problem. The 328's are 2ohm and the door speakers are 4ohm. After talking to the crutchfield guys, they also said a 2ohm speaker is going to be a bad match for the Kenwood head unit. Sending these back for some Rockford Fosgate 4ohm's. They have less power consumption and should play fair with the rest of the system.
