Hey guys, I am done with the suspension components on my T4R and now need to upgrade the bump stops so they are functional with the lift. I am wondering what brand you recommend?
I have a 3" lift with 285/75/17's and Fox 2.5's. The stock bumps are way short in the back. I have also seen people use spacers and keep their stocks?

    What do you guys suggest?
Timberen, Sumo, Durobumps, Superbumps, Wheeler....So many to choose from.

Thank you for any advice you can give.

If you lift and then use extended bump stops, what are you gaining?

You'll need them if you upsized your tires. 35 inch tires will rub pretty badly w/out massive body cutting, or use a bump stop and plan on extending your break lines (assuming your lift is balanced).

For the front, I'm running Energy Susp 8.9104G urethane bumpstops - these are a good value and feel cushy.

For the rear, I'm running Wheelers WOR-306952 Super Bumps. They are a bit longer than stock. Wheelers sells puck spacers for them if you need more length.

Thank you guys for the info! I am running a 3” lift. 34” tires and have extended brake lines. these are the last piece of the suspension puzzle for me.

I appreciate your comments and recommendations.

Do your Fox 2.5 shocks have the same travel range as stock? If they have the same lengths fully compressed and fully extended as stock shocks, then why do you need taller bump stops? Wouldn’t that restrict your up-travel unnecessarily? 33s should fit in the rear wheel well with no problem.

edit: I just realized they’re closer to 34”. Do they rub in the rear?

I got a pair of the extended OEM rear bump stops from the GX470. They mount right on my 2015 T4R. If you’re feeling frugal, you can get a cheap aftermarket set for around $40.

yeah, so glad we don’t have that problem here in Northern California.
We just have to deal with the higher cost of living and other stupid California bullshit.

Somebody posted a little-known, small shop with their own bump stops at a great price, and I can't find the dang thread now.

Edit* Found it, never used em, but here's another option.

I had the energy suspension in front and extensions in the rear.

Now running full perryparts the rear definitely made a difference the fronts have a much more progressive damping vs the energy but both are very good.

I still keep my old bumps in the truck at all times, we'll see how the 3d print holds up.

Newbie here so be patient if I ask a silly question. :)

I'm getting ready to buy a 2024 4Runner TRD Offroad with 4WD and I want to pick the front up about 1" with spacers to level it a little. Do I need to do anything to the bump stops? Down near the bottom of the article, this link suggests adding washers as spacers?

    https://trail4runner.com/2020/12/02/how-to-fix-driver-side-lean-on-5th-gen-4runner/

"One thing you may also want to consider is adjusting your bump stops. The general rule of thumb seems to be that the factory bump stops will still work with 1/4” thick top spacers. Anything more than that and you run the risk of over compressing the coilover shock under a hard compression.

To solve this, you can unscrew the bump stop and add a few washers on top to space it down some so that it makes contact sooner than the factory position ..."

It's all over the place and, from what I understand, it depends on what you use the truck for. Apparently light offroading won't be an issue on factory stops. Moderate lifts around 2'2.5" may also not need them. On the other had, I've had folks tell me that any change needs new stops. I could also just be a simpleton. Haha

I don't intend to do anything offroad, although I do sometimes get into some sticky situations when camping and adventuring in the mountains of North Carolina. I actually bent a wheel on my FJ Cruiser on a very bad forest "road" when I fell into a hole that I didn't think was as deep as it was. Oops. So if something like that hole comes along again, I want to be ready for it.

It may be worth it if the concern is that large. If you're just worried about the fronts, Energy Suspension seems to be super popular and super affordable.

Yes, front only. I just want to shim it up about 1" in the front (1/2" spacers) to level it a little. The Energy Suspension linked in this thread says "rear" when I go to the link. I have no idea if they are correct for what I want to do. I didn't even know what a bump stop was until last night.

They're "rear" but the 4Runner rear is 2 bolts rather than 1 so it doesn't work in the back on our applications. However, lot's of folks use them in the front. I'm going out today to articulate the suspension in some nearby hills and see what contacts where or if I even need the stops. We will see.
