Gas mileage, What are you getting?

Probably negligible results, but I'd still use it to justify it to the wifey.

Getting 18.5 to 19 no highway. On the Highway 21-22.

 

Just made a trip to Atlanta and back last week. I was getting 23.44 MPG. Pleasantly surprised...

 

Did a road trip from NY to Michigan Thursday night. 70mph the whole way and averaged right around 23mpg. Bone stock minus the front bug shield in the front. Had about 600 pounds worth of ppl and stuff inside it to.
See how the return leg goes on Sunday night. But overal super impressed how it is on the highway

 

We have 3k miles on our 2018 and I was hoping for better milage,, my v8 tundra did almost as good, I was getting 14-18 0ut of my Tundra with the 5.7L. we don't drive light footed. but we didn't drive light footed in the Tundra. I was hoping we would see a small increase by replacing the muffler, with a free flowing one. Sounds better, more like a v8, than I thought it would. So we may leave it on anyway. We run the low grade Shell gas, but its up to 10% ethanol. and from what I have read that lower our milage by a few. We are getting 16-17mpg, and its the 4.0v6, but we do a mix of hwy and in town. But at $3.70 a gallon I would like better. We do love our 4Runner a lot, so I guess we will have to accept it.

 

I found that on my previous Tacoma and now this 4Runner their fuel economy is very dependent on driving style and very sensitive to certain kind of aftermarket mods.
Highway cruising found that anything above 70mph and the fuel mileage drops off like a rock, and if you are always in the loud pedal coming off of stop signs and green lights it really won’t like it in the city. My daily commute to work is 95% city and still manage 18-19mpg average. Road trip I just did with 100% highway and was getting 22.5-23.5mpg.

Also add that if you are going off of the dash computer it’s gonna read low by a few mpg. Do the old school check after filing it up and dividing the gallons into the miles you drove to get your actual

17.6 - all stock 2018 -highway, city and a little off road

 

My on board display has changed twice since my post a month ago..........It's now up from 19.2 to 19.4 for the life of the truck which is approaching 16k miles.

 

Does someone like the skinny pedal a lot? LoL

 

the 5th gen is a pig, underpowered pretty bad IMO, so yes have to put your foot down to make it move. I get similar mileage in our v8 4th gen on 35's than a stock 5th gen.

 

I’m still getting used to the power band in mine. I’ve noticed to get it to down shift trying to pass someone you basically have to mash the loud pedal. But if you’re in the sweet spot I feel like it can zip along pretty good, and I kind of like the engine note of it. But towing a 2,000 kubota around I didn’t have much issue other than the rear squat.

 

A Sprintbooster should take care of the drive by wire lag if you care. I ran one in my '15 Durmax due to the drive by wire tune creating the feel of lag and dull response to throttle input and it was night and day the response i got with the Sprintbooster installed.

 

I have a 2017, and without any real modifications (just 275s and rims), I could easily get 24mpg, but I'm also not an aggressive driver on the city roads and highways. No fast starts; no driving 80 mph...a fairly conservative man behind the wheel (until I get off road--that's a different story).

However, after modifications the added weight absolutely brought my efficiency down. I average now on a combination of city/highway roads about 17 mpg, with ~1500 lbs. more in weight on the truck through all of its modifications. My truck is going through a few more rounds of modifications, including larger tires, a few more added things, and being re-geared to 4.88; I don't yet know what that will do to fuel efficiency but I'm not holding my breath that it will become better.

 

The more mods you do, the more the gas mileage goes down. I left mine stock for a reason...

 

Roads? Where we are going, we don't need roads....

...glad I added a flux capacitor to my 4Runner.

I have a stock 2015 SR5 with 50k miles. I live around 4000 feet above sea level in Utah. I like to watch and track my mileage closely for some reason. Not so much for economy, more like playing a game. I use the eco light to help me go easy on the go peddle and I am a big cruise control user. I don't want to give the impression I am a miser behind the wheel. Based on my observations of how frequently I pass or am passed on the freeway, I would say I am an average driver. One thing I have noticed is how much speeds over 70mph do not agree with mileage in the 4runner. Here is what I get:

65mph freeway - 24 mpg (w/unloaded roof rack 23mpg)
70mph freeway - 23 mpg (w/unloaded roof rack 22mpg)
75mph freeway - 21 mpg (w/unloaded roof rack 20mpg)
65mph freeway towing 3000lbs trailer w/unloaded roof rack w/six passengers - 18 mpg
70mph freeway towing 3000lbs trailer w/unloaded roof rack w/six passengers - 16 mpg
75mph freeway towing 3000lbs trailer w/unloaded roof rack w/six passengers - 14 mpg
30/70 city/highway (70mph) - 20 mpg
City only - 17 mpg

Here are my loaded roof rack numbers:

75mph freeway - 18 mpg
65mph freeway towing 3000lbs trailer w/loaded roof rack w/six passengers - 16 mpg

Overall I am very pleased with the 4runner's fuel economy considering its versatility as an off road vehicle, tow vehicle, and daily driver.

 

I got an average of 18.2 MPG at 77 MPH on my drive to The Outer Banks in NC. About a 12 hour drive total. Should be a little better with some additional mileage. Just 1600 miles or so now.

CAI and Gibson exhaust (however much they may help) with a Icon Lift and 285s (which don't help). Dash said I was in ECO zone for most of the trip.

 

Have over 13k miles now, averaged 21.1mpg overall with my app. Now that it's warm out and I switched to non ethanol, 85 octane (not E85, and living at 3000 feet in elevation) my last three tanks have been averaging 24mpg, mixed driving.

 

Think you are doing very well - Bet that ECO Light is on all the time

 

I’ve had mine for a short 3600 Miles now, I’m gettijg 18.8 average.

I have a 15 mile commute one way with no highway (truck also rarely goes on the highway).

That’s with AT tires, CAI, and roof rack.

 

Wife drives a 2018 Limited. just over 3K miles and does mostly city driving. She gets around 17 mpg. Highway around 20.
