Well, I'm troubled. I just bought a TRD Off Road Premium and paid a decent amount to essentially turn it into a TRD Pro.

    I purchased:

    The 4Runner
    The TRD Bilstein Shocks,
    TRD Wheels
    Predator Tube Step,
Pro Grill, Bumpers, Skid Plate, and the Badges.

I ended up buying the whole package from the dealership. They promised that it would all go smooth and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference (looks or performance) from the TRD Pro.

Well I just went into the dealership today after all the parts were ordered and they told me that the Bilstein system isn't compatible with the OR Premium. They have to modify the OR Premium near the wheel wells and make a couple holes bigger. They also told me they have to cut the skid plate to conform it to fit since the sway bar in the OR Premium is different than the Pro underneath.

Has anybody had any experience in this area? I'm curious to see if the OR Premium will perform the same as the Pro after the modifications.

Thanks for the help. You guys know your stuff and I'm excited to learn. My wife and I took the Premium camping the first night we took it home.

Welcome! I'm sure someone will jump in with some help or answers about your issues.

How did the first camping trip with it go?

Sounds like he got the KDSS options ORP.

Yes, the skid will not fit on the ORP with KDSS.

Not sure why the shocks and coils won’t fit, should bolt right up.

The skid will need to be trimmed to fit if you have kdss. No big deal. They also will trim a slight amount on your front fender well, the “fender liner mod”. Also no big deal.

Correct - I bought the ORP with KDSS installed. My understanding is the sway bar gets in the way of the skid plate which I'm not too worried about. I am more concerned about the shocks and coils. The Toyota dealer in Southern California told me that the shocks and coils/suspension isn't compatible and that they have to thread a hole (that's already there) to be a little bigger. It doesn't sound too concerning - they just told me that it voids the insurance that I paid extra for to cover these new parts. I

When I bought the insurance, they said it would cover the new parts and now they're going backwards... Which I'm not thrilled about. That's more of a sales/dealer issue, though.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to try to change the ORP into a TRDP... Any success stories? We love it so far as-is off the lot. Took it to the beach, slept in the back, our dog loves the back window. Very excited about the summer ahead. Thanks everyone for the info. I'll post a pic and what the dealer has to say later next week. I'll see if I can do a before and after pic of the hole they're going to thread. We take it back in to the service center on Tuesday.

    Ok, so, here's the latest:

We went in tonight and it just so happened that the stealership came across a TRD Pro, 2018, white, 300 miles. Our ORP has 290 miles.

They offered us $7,500 over MSRP, but are giving us $1,600 in breaks so basically he broke it down to $5,900 mark-up.
In so-cal, the standard markup is $5k over MSRP.

They basically offered us a swap. They admitted to being deceitful and offered us our money back either route we go. I was shocked and feel a little better and probably won't call it a stealership from now on.

So, this dealership, offered us a TRD Pro for a swap.

    What would you do??

I think it's an easy decision. My wife is skeptical. Let us know your thoughts, and give me some leverage!!! Unless I'm being impulsive like the first time we bought the ORP.

Uhhh...keep the ORP unless all you care about is the appearance of the Pro.

The ORP is a Pro and then some but sans the cool toyota grill and wheels.

Both have Crawl Control, both have MTS, both have the cool softex pleather, both have the TRD headrests. ORP has KDSS, Pro does not. ORP has a moonroof option (not sure if yours does) Pro does not. Pro has the TRD suspension which offers zero lift.

Interesting - I was thinking more about resale later down the line too, I've heard pretty good stories on Pro resale.

I don't think we'd get much, say, 5-6 years from now, if we resell the ORP with some Pro parts installed.

Our ORP did not have the moon roof or turn signal indicators, it's basically the exact same as the Pro inside.

I was going to sell the old parts and make some money back too, the wheels/tires, shocks/suspension, etc and hope to make some money back, so this saves us the hassle there too.

It sounds to me like your sold on the Pro and it’ll suit you well if that is what you truly want.

We all have spent a lot of time learning and researching our purchases and bought what suits us. What we like surely isn’t what you like and in the end all that matters is we are all happy with our 4Runners.

What he said ^^^ From what ive read on here you can lift and upgrade with KDSS you just probably should talk to a offroad shop that deals w toyotas. There is a trd pro down here with total chaos upper control arms. I asked them if they would service the uniball when it needs replacing. They told me it never needs to be replaced. Total chaos recommends replacing every 30k. Most toyota dealers dont know anything about aftermarket parts or how to properly lift a truck. That said....If you want a pro, get one. I almost flew to texas to buy a cement 2017 pro cause they were selling it for 38k w 7k in miles. It sold faster than i could dial my phone haha. All that matters is find what you want, life is short drive what puts a smile on your face!

You absolutely can lift and upgrade a KDSS 4Runner. This is my second 4Runner with KDSS that’s been lifted and modified. The suspensions on both of them have been swapped to OME with 285/70/R17 BFG’s

Yep, and I also read a lot of people love the kdss, so why get rid of a system that doesnt have issues and auto disconnects when on the trails...sounds good to me.

Why does your ORP NOT have the turn signal indicators in the mirrors? I thought that was a standard feature of the ORP. I know mine has them and they were NOT on the options list as they were a standard feature. Could it be that the dealer even lied about that and you have a re-badged OR or SR5?

I am guessing that you also do not have the TRD in red stitching on the headrests.

I just caught that and had to check the standard features on the ORP and the turn signal indicators are standard on the ORP and are not offered on the OR.

    Something is afoot

The indicators are on the outside portion of your mirror. Based on photos you posted in another thread, your Runner does have the indicators. You can't really see them from the driver seat.

You are correct, no indicators in the mirror itself, just the outside shell.

This may be the same with the OP, he may have them but not realize it.

Yup, that's it ^^ sorry for the confusion. I do have it on the back side of the mirror.

Currently leaning towards getting my money back and going to another dealer. There's a volume based dealer that people travel to for in Cerritos, CA. I can get a good price on an ORP there and add tires/wheels, grill, and predator tube step. I'd keep the ORP badges. Don't have the heart to put on the Pro badges.

I bought a Taco from that dealer in Cerritos. Financed thru my credit union. They sent the title to TFS. When my CU figured that out they were not super happy. It took a good three months of being nice, threatening, begging, broken promises, etc to get the title back.

I would never go back to that dealer.

And if it were me I would get the Pro from your dealer. The Pro is so sweet, even if it is an overpriced appearance package.

What did you pay out the door for it if you dont mind me asking. I got dealer invoice for mine in escondido in san diego. The wife n I tried to get lower but pissed everyone off so much we just took dealer invoice price. I kept trying to get them to throw the grill in n that infuriated them haha the reason I ask is cause you could probably do the same there if they have another one if your looking to save money n not head up to cerritos

Ended up going with the pro. I called them and asked for my money back. They knocked off another $2077 and I paid $60,000 out the door, but I paid $52,000 for the car. I paid a little extra for some extended warranties since we don’t plan on modifying anything much now that it’s a pro, probably just going to add a roof rack eventually. The markup was quoted at $4,100.

We’re stoked. Thanks everyone for the input, sometimes you don’t know what you want until the coin is in the air.

    You paid how much?!?!

    Holy shit!!!!

My 2017 TRD ORP was $41 before trade in, down payment and taxes. It was $38k OTD.

I think some salesperson is rolling in some $$$ today

I think we got a "fair" deal, not a great one. The price for our Pro on our ticket was $52,500. Sales tax is 8%, and then we paid a little more for some extended warranties for 8 years/100k miles. They threw in window tinting, 3 full details, and an extra year of Toyota Care... If they got us, they got us on the warranties but I wanted the peace-of-mind while driving.

We were quoted a price at Cerritos that was $60k as well, for a new one, but it wasn't guaranteed that it would be available. We heard that they sometimes take the "highest bidder" on whoever is willing to pay the largest markup over MSRP and it could take up to 6 months for the Truck.

It was a long process, but we are happy. I almost want to completely forget about the buying experience and just start to enjoy the truck. Thinking about Pismo Beach or Joshua Tree this weekend.

Lastly, we aren't from Utah - but I'm a huge fan of the Jazz - and we go there in the winter for ski/snow. Now we'll have to trek up there and explore this summer as well.

Thanks everybody - valuable input all around.

I think the Pro’s here are in the $44k range. They tried to sell me one when I got my ORP and it was only $2k over my ORP

Different prices in different markets. Such is the case on "limited runs". If you're not willing to travel or wait, then you're stuck paying above MSRP. I've been looking for a Civic Type R in white for MSRP for months (AZ/CA). Do I think that 60k for a Pro is a lot, yeah, but hey it's not my money. @n00bCity13 get out there and enjoy your Pro!
