What makes the v6s sound like crap has to do with the catalytic converters... pop the rear two cats off of the 4.0 and put on a trd exhaust its music to my ears lol.

 

I'm sure that's a factor. But, they don't make V8's sound bad. Or, even 4 bangers for that matter.

I have heard some good sounding V6's, but I've never heard one sound as good as an I6.

 

The very few times I've seen Tacos and 4Rs towing, they always either go super slow or squat too much. I don't mean they can't tow, but honestly if I tow with my 4R it would be something super lightweight... which I think I may get a light trailer for canoes and kayaks instead of the roof rack, it's too tall for me

 

How slow? Toyota recommends 65 MPH max for towing. And, U-haul recommends 55 with their trailers, IIRC.

They do squat. I definitely appreciate having heavier springs on the occasions I tow.

I don't think anyone would say they're great at towing. But, they'll do the job. If towing is a high priority, full size is the way to go.

 

I think it’s like anything else be smart about it and it will be ok. The key is to not max the capacities out. I had an old body on frame 90s Explorer with a similar 4.0 V6 (4Runner’s is superior by far) and I towed 3,000lb boat and trailer over 30,000 miles over many years just taking my time. I know that since I tracked towing miles. The majority of the time I took it easy and it just fine. Granted I was not towing through mountains or rough terrain though.

The nice thing about the 4Runner is I can put it in garage, keep all my fishing stuff in the back year round and it’s covered and locked. For a city boy like me with a small boat it’s a great vehicle and does the job. If I had to have a big pickup I am not sure where I would keep it. Definitely need to be outside

 

Daughter's Lotus Evora is one of those good sounding V-6's, and it's a Toyota V-6 at that! Still like a Cummins that's 'well tuned' though.

 

Everyone, at least once, should drive a V-12. They are like nothing else.

 

If they’re squatting, then I’m pretty those people are exceeding the tongue weight capacity. The 4R has so much rake in stock form that anything close to the rated capacity just levels the truck.

 

I don’t know my boat has maybe 120-150lb of tongue weight and i think there is always a little squat. I think trailers such as campers might be heavier in the tongue since you cannot move the axle and adjust tongue weight

 

Pff, everyone should drive a turbod rotary atleast once. I drove plenty of "supercars" but nothing compared to a 1.3l.

They certainly have more cylinders than most other engines.

 

There's certainly something special about those motors. I always hate it when I see a V8 wedged into an RX7. I drove one years ago, when I was test driving cars as a pastime.

But, most supercars probably make more power than a 13B can handle long term.

 

To really appreciate them, you need to hear them back to back with a V8.

Got the opportunity at a Ferrari dealer once and while the V8 sounded good, the V12 announced itself with authority.

The most expensive car in the world is also the best sounding…

 

I lived near a guy that swapped a Chevy 350 into a Ferrari.

 

More proof that "best sounding" is subjective. Based on sound alone, I'd take the I6 in my old Supra over that Ferrari every day.

A long term rotary just doesn't exist. But that little engine all tuned up with a single turbo will simply blow away anything.

On track day there wasn't one car I wouldn't walk by. But its definitely a engine of the past. And only at 380whp. It was simply incredible. I never had a car that put such a smile on my face.

You can do anything you want to a 13B, or even a 20B. They can't make as much power as a good V8, or I6, even short term.

Knowing someone who knew the guy, it sounded like it was more of having a great condition vehicle that didn’t have an engine to match.

Yup, subjective. I think the Cummins (and all diesels) sound terrible, unless you're trying to cosplay being an OTR trucker.

 

Seems like a situation where you sell the car and use the money to buy something you can afford to build.

Your right....but when you car weighs less then 2800lbs you really don't need alot of power. Hell mine ran 10.8 with less then 400hp and street tires. I even did the rolling 1/2 mile and hit 179mph. Sure was fun.

 

Power to weight is a huge factor! 10.8 is seriously fast.

One of my friends has a CRX making a little over 200hp, and it hangs with vehicles with way more power.

Honestly, if I ever get anything sporty, I'll be satisfied with 300hp, RWD, and a manual transmission. I've been eyeing up the Nissan Z for years, but I decided to blow all of my money on 4×4's instead.

An adhesive label change takes 2 years at Toyota. It's the corporate equivalent of steering a supertanker.

To Toyota's credit, it eventually does fix its problems, whereas GM/Ford/Stellantis take a lot longer or don't do it at all.
