Ignition key broke - now I have traction control & Multi terrain lights on

Went to start my 4Runner (2018 ORP) and the key literally twisted into pieces. Got it temporarily put back together to get it started to get home. Ordered new keys, had them programmed, starts and operates fine. Exception is that going all the way back to piecing the key back together to get home, both the traction control and multi terrain lights on the dash have came and stayed on. Multi-terrain feature says it is not available due to maintenance required. Since then I have:

• Disconnected battery for 30 mins
• Used code reader - No codes present - reset any ways
• Reset the maintenance reminder light.

The 2 lights are still present and have never even gone off temporarily.

Any help appreciated as I am tired of seeing these lights on, car runs fine, no limp mode etc...

 

You will need a code reader that can communicate with that particular module but I'm wondering if the steering able sensor was somehow damaged.

 

I have had 2 dealer service writers hookup to it and an AutoZone hook their reader up to it, no avail....What code reader are you speaking of?

 

Something like an Autel or Snapon Solus. A regular code reader will not be able to communicate with the VSC.

Jokes aside, do you have any aftermarket alarms or remote start system installed? Was your 4Runner ever stolen and the steering column area tampered with?

 

I believe it had a dealer remote start added as there is a under hood sticker that cautions remote start, its a toyota sticker if I remember right, just doesnt look factory.

 

Will the dealer have one of these?? I typically hate going to dealer service, but I hate these lights more.

They do use full scanners to communicate with all the modules. Did they charge you a fee when you went?

 

No, the service advisor used a simple OBD scanner looked like it

 

Yeah they were trying to save you the diagnostic fee. It will be about $120 to diagnose unless you have warranty.
