Recently found an '09 Sport Urban Runner edition with 115k miles on it and clean history. Listed for just under $15k. Not familiar with the Urban Runner package so hoping to get some thoughts on this. Nothing has been modified to this point. Thanks in advance.

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
I had to look it up I had not heard of that package before, from: Toyota release

February 6, 2008 – Chicago, IL -The 2008 Toyota 4Runner midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) with an all-new Sport Edition Urban Runner Package will make its debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. Adding a new dimension in style, value, and upscale luxury to the capable SUV, the Urban Runner Package delivers an extraordinary value with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,760 over the Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4WD V6's base price of $32,600.

The 4Runner Urban Runner will begin arriving at dealerships in early February. Initially, the Urban Runner Package will only be available in the Sport Edition 4WD V6 configuration. In April 2008, a 2WD version will be available.

Standard exterior features include 18-inch six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, unique rear spoiler, color-keyed grille, Urban Runner badging, XREAS Sport Enhanced Suspension badging, chrome exhaust tip, and black-painted tubular side steps and tubular roof rack with crossbars. The 4Runner Urban Runner is available in only three exterior colors, Black, Titanium Metallic and, new to 4Runner, Blizzard Pearl.

Inside, the Urban Runner features a new audio system with an integrated portable Tom Tom® personal navigation device, a Toyota first. With a paid subscription for additional services through Tom Tom®, the device can keep users informed with real-time traffic and weather updates. An optional Tom Tom® power kit and mounting device makes it easy to transfer the navigation unit to other vehicles.
Additional standard interior enhancements include an AM/FM/CD with six speakers and WMA and MP3 compatibility, Bluetooth®, stone Alcantara® fabric seat inserts and dark charcoal bolsters with eight-way power driver seat and four-way power passenger seats, leather-trimmed shift knob, perforated leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, chrome door handles, and black wood-grain-style interior trim.
Optional equipment includes a double deck cargo system with net, HomeLink® universal transceiver, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, and a 115-volt AC power outlet.

I guess check and see if it has what it should, are you comfortable with the mileage on it, for me its a little high.

they are sought after I know that - the main reason I know of them are the headunit and the faceplate trim in the dash as well as some other items that are highly sought after like the round roof rack as opposed to the standard one, supposedly some other items that are rare as well.

I have a 2008 Sport Urban Runner complete with all of the optional equipment listed above. I will tell you that the Tom Tom is kind of hard to see in bright sunlight. Also that radio is no longer made. The Xreas suspension will give you a nice ride but is very expensive to replace. Mine has 129059 miles.

I have an 08 Urban Runner and love it. I did however replace the Tom Tom radio as soon as I got it strictly for the fact that I'm a tech junkie and fell in love with Android Auto. The Tom Tom unit is not bad at all tho, I still have mine sitting in a box like new. Also, the tubular roof rack is nice, but it makes any basket you put on it sit very high. And if you are like me, I like to park in my garage, once I get all my suspension replaced and lifted, I will be parking outside again.

Hi Folks, new to the forum and just committed to buy my first 4Runner, a 2009 Sport with the Urban Runner package. Question - does this package include a backup camera?

    Thanks,

    Doug

My 2008 Urban Runner does not have a backup camera. From my research the Urban Runner package does not include a back up camera from the factory. However I believe the Tom Tom radio has an input on the rear for a camera.

This is correct. My advice, while you have the TomTom out to get to the video input, replace it with something better.

I've committed to purchase an '09 4Runner Sport Edition with the Urban Runner Package. I'm planning on replacing the Tom Tom radio and nav with something more up-to-date. Would any of you that have done this, have recommendations and a link to a good replacement unit, please? I'd like to incorporate a backup camera when I make the change and have the largest screen feasible. I saw a film on YouTube that showed a conversion that incorporated the rear camera into an existing light slot in the rear bumper, license plate holder (? can't remember which) that looked pretty nice and clean.

Also, I've noticed that some of the 4Runners of this vintage have the shift knob with the silver insert trim and some do not. The UR package says it comes with a leather knob. Was the silver trimmed shift knob part of an accessory package for this vehicle?

    Thanks,

    Doug

Pioneer AVH NEX series is what I would recommend to anyone. I have the 4100 but the entire series is great.
