Making the high beams brighter?

According to the Toyota website (for the 2023), the low beams are halogen bulbs and the high beams are LED. Also, the fog lights are LED. Well, on my trim level. It may be less/more if you're the base SR5 or the top of the line Limted/Pro.

 

Weird. I thought the low beams were all LED since like 2020. . I guess I haven't been paying attention.

If they're LED, that kinda sucks. No easy way to improve them.

I put Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited 9005's in mine and have been happy with them.

 

Yeah, I tried to upgrade the low beams last month, only to find out that I couldn't do it. Well, I'm sure I could, but the plug-n-play video that I found, was for a 2020/2021 model. That model has an easy access twist cap that lets you change the bulb. My 2023 doesn't have that.

So, I returned them.

 

Can you give details where is the positive wire on bi-leds? what color? got a pic please? Thanks.

 

If you’ve ever popped the hood and looked at your headlights, you’ll see you don’t need to remove the bumper to access the low and high connector. I don’t have a multimeter or the wiring diagrams with me, but if my memory serves me correctly, it is the white and black wire

 

LED low beams have been standard since 2021. LED high beams (really bi-LED) have been standard since 2022. You cannot replace the emitter easily on the OEM LEDs. Notice I said emitter and not bulb because it does not use an LED bulb. No OEM uses an LED bulb. LED bulbs also happen to not be legal for on road use.

Lucky for my 2018 I used a Y connector to the highbeam socket to power the switch for auxiliary lights. No wire tapping, a clean install. When the highbeam is off other auxiliary lights turn off. Very useful for rural driving.

Back in October before the daylight savings change, I drove to the lake in my new 4Runner for the first time at 6 a.m. and I got flashed from 3 different drivers … they thought I had my brights on. I flashed them back to let them know I wasn’t using brights. But, when I put the actual brights on, it didn’t seem like a huge difference? I don’t know. Haven’t had anyone flash me in the city, so I don’t care

 

Thats weird, I think my brights are not good at all.

 

Sounds like your lamps may be aimed too high. There are some good videos on Youtube that tell you how to measure and adjust them.

 

This is how I adjust mine. I don't measure. I only check level with garage door/ wall and the height is a visual check on a level road test.

A lightbar up front, will do what you need. Mine is brighter than headlight's brights. Together, it's pretty impressive.

I would definitely upgrade the "Fogs" if realigning the HL doesn't work.
