Help with inner CV play at diff

Wife and I noticed a clanking noise while driving home yesterday evening. We only hear it when making left turns but not every time. I found the inner CV housing has play at the diff. It only slides in/out and no up/down or front/back. There is no sign of oil leaking from the diff either. I did swap axles in August to high angle CVs along with a ECGS bushing. I replaced the axle seals when doing that too. Has anyone else had similar issues or have any input? The housing is the only thing that slides. I don't have any play when pulling on the middle part of the shaft between the CVs joints. Also when I engage 4wd the play goes away.

Left turn only noise? Continuous clanking sound? I'd check the passenger outer CV and see if there's anything there.

 

It's not a continuous clanking sound. It's one clank each left turn. I posted a link to my post on Reddit since I couldn't post the video on here. The housing on the inner CV slides a little bit in/out from the diff. I engaged 4wd and there's no sliding with housing. I never noticed that until now. I swapped the axles and ECGS bushing back in August and we have put about 9k miles on it since then. I've been told some play like that is normal and that it's not normal.

 

I have stock axels and my driver side inner has lots of axial slop. No noises or issues, been like that forever.

 

If the sound is not periodic, I’d try checking the suspension, control arms and ball joints. Re-torque everything and inspect it as you work through it.

Well that makes me feel a little more at ease. I can feel the c clip catch inside the diff when I pull on the housing for the inner CV and had other mention some play is normal.

 

Control arms are good. I have the cams marked so if they move it's easy to see. Already checked the sway bar, sway bar links, the steering rack and shock mounts. The only thing I've noticed is the inner CV housing sliding in/out of the diff almost an 1/8". I'll adjusting the inner boot too see if that has any effect.
