Do you get a glare off the hood scoop?

I haven't really got a chance to super clean my new 2018 TRD off road, waiting for weather to clear. I've been able to run it through the touchless carwash but still not real clean. Anyway I've noticed the sun glare hits the hood scoop right into my eye! Anyone have this problem? I can imagine the glare worse with a nice and clean hood.

I did see one 4runner where they did a mat black vinyl skin on the hood and I'm sure would have taken care of any glare, not that it was their main purpose.

Wasn't sure if the glare was a common 4runner thing...

It's a common issue with the hood scoop on Tacomas, and like you mentioned, a popular fix is to cover the hood scoop with some sort of vinyl decal.

Even better, get rid of it entirely. Besides throwing glare, it reduces your view over the hood. Post up some pictures and advertise your hood for swapping, an SR5 or Limited driver will take it off your hands. I traded mine away and got $100 for my trouble.

I have this issue, a hood pair of polarized sun glasses or tiniting your windshield help.

6S2A8472-1.jpg I did a vinyl wrap on mine just because of the glare. Only had it a few days, but it works for glare, and I like the look.

I like that wrap. When you do these vinyl wrap, do you take it into a vehicle wrap place or do it yourself?

I don’t have an issue with the glare from my scoop. The wrap looks good though

I took mine to a window tinting place. Was only 125.00 for materials and labor.

The scoop or the whole hood? I am thinking an entire mat black hood would look good.

I am going to get around the scoop wrapped all the way to the back of the hood. For me, the glare seems to come off the backside of the scoop where it angles back to meet the rest of the hood.

This is my 2nd 4R with a skewp and I’ve never noticed the glare. Maybe it’s just me and my brain doesn’t process it.

Mine glares too, but only at certain hours. I want to get mine wrapped, I really like the scoop (it’s adds 10hp!) but hate the glare.

I love the scoop, they look to plain without it. No issues with glare at all.

Mine most definitely does glare with the sun in the right position. I also get some glare off of the flat part of the hood next to the scoop under some circumstances.

If anyone wants to get rid of their scoop hood, I would gladly trade my non scoop SR5 MGM hood. Located in NJ.

Anyone have pictures of their black 4R with the scoop wrapped? Curious to see how the matte vinyl looks with the gloss paint.

Is the scoop just decorative? It doesnt serve any purpose? I havent had an issue with mine and I live in AZ where it can get very bright. Could the car color affect the degree of glare?

Scoop is purely decorative. You'll know the glare when you see it. Polarized sunglasses help a lot.

I have a black 4r and plan to go matte black think it'll look fine . ChrisCu though, is the hood scoop on the Tacoma the same size? Because eBay has precut vinyl for under $40

Looks a little too plane Jane for my liking. Makes it less aggressive and more picking up the kidsish.

Having kids was the entire reason I switched from a Tacoma to a 4R. I almost got a Sienna minivan with AWD, but I chickened out. The 4Runner is pretty much the same thing, except it's uglier and gets worse MPG.

I have never noticed a glare off my hood scope, though have heard (read) this complaint quite a bit since owning my T4R. Maybe it's how I have my seat set up?, my height? I dunno, but have literally never had this problem:crapstorm:

Have had my t4r for a month now and the glare kills me. It only happens morning and evenings. Especially evening hunting on mountain roads - can hardly see! Here is a pic I actually took this morning before stumbling onto this thread

It's like when you are sitting on your couch and the sun is perfect to hit you in the face between the blind holes.

    Going to wrap the skewp.

Plastidip? Is that too cheap? A lot of people black out their logos/emblems with it. Tape off the scoop and run it there too. $10 bucks.
