2024 4Runner Officially Announced

Well as expected from the 2024 colors word, looks like the 2024 4Runner is officially announced by Toyota on their newsroom. No changes at all from 2023 to 2024 as I can tell from the article. Guess that means no purchase regret if you got a 2023?

Sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere already. Did a search and didn’t see recent discussion over the official announcement.

Bummer. Was really holding out hope for at least something small being added. LOL. Oh well.

 

Tried and true am I right? All jokes aside I know what you mean. But, it does make me feel at least a little better about my recent purchase. Maybe there will be more details to come or minor changes they didn’t disclose in the article.

 

Maybe so. I had an order fall through for a new 2023 so now i am back to waiting on a different dealership to get in another one. I am thinking this wait may be longer than the 3 months i waited for the 2023.

 

Bummer. Well maybe you can get a ‘23 sooner and with a better deal than waiting on a ‘24 then?

TRD Pro always improved like in old days it didn't have moonroof, turn indicators on mirrors, etc and now it has good amount of features. I thought they will bring the 2024 TRD Pro as a TRD ORP with KDSS (maybe even try the new E-KDSS) and slap on the TRD badge, roof rack, wheels, tires, etc the regular TRD Pro stuff that is added locally. Maybe ventilated seats from the Limited? 7 seat option for 7 seat lovers like myself? Strange that 2024 don't have anything new other than the new color.

 

Why would they make any updates for what is supposed to be the last model year? I.e. they are canning this guy next year (this generation, at least).

I'm pretty sure they only added the safety stuff a few years back because it was relatively easy, and the 4R was already 5+ years behind on that.

 

This probably means that the configurator on Toyota's website will update to 24' soon. Keep an eye out!

I guess the only people estatic about this news are the ones that bought the 2023 model.

Toyota has nothing really to share here and there is only so much literature you can publish about new colors.

 

Last night, I just saw a Toyota TV ad for their trucks showing $1,000.00 cash back. Even the 4R was shown - although briefly. I noticed that my Dealer has more 4R's in stock than I've seen in a couple years. Maybe it's just a year-end sale.
Next year, it will be interesting to see if there is a "run" to purchase the last year of the 5th Generation. Or if sales for 2024 4R's hold about the same as 2023, with others waiting till the into of the 6th Generation.

 

Full agree with this. That state of the economy right now is downright awful and unsustainable.

 

Yep. Dealers are going to eat their shorts if they think people are going to pay over MSRP in this current economy. They said the TRD pro will be $300 more than last years model, so aside from the slight price increase I am hoping to not see any insane dealer mark ups. Cars are sitting on the lot more than ever. People just can't afford vehicles right now.

 

I have had 3 nearby dealers now tell me they will do msrp and let me finance on my own for a new TRD Pro. Hoping one of them can secure one soon. Also had 2 hit the lot I could have purchased at msrp but was waiting on the prior order that screwed me. None of these started at msrp and when they told me about the markups I told them I wasn’t interested. All of them contacted about 2 days after saying they would do it. It definitely seems to be shifting away from markup around me. At certain places. Some are still committed and determined to change over sticker.

You joke, but as the owner of a fantastic 23, I am probably gonna buy a 24 so I have another one in the family

 

Go for it! If buying a 14 year old model floats your boat then why not.
For us that have a decade old model, we are just happy ours is still relevant going into 2024.

 

To be honest, the fact it hasn’t changed in over a decade is exactly why I am buying one. I know some technology is good but I am tired of the move to giant touchscreens and digital displays. No buttons with everything needed to control a car buried 5 pages deep in an electronic display. Tired of forced induction motors and over geared transmissions that break. I just want something that works and does everything I need a car to do. Drive from a to b and not made of planned maintenance items. Lol.

 

The present model came out in 2010. The platform is 14 years old and it shows it's age.
Toyota knows it's long overdue . It's in a special position with no real competition and the reason Toyota has been able to pull it of for so long.
Your analogy would not work here. A 1960s Pontiac GTO will have little relevance as a daily driver in 2023. It went out of flavor for precisely being outdated. Even if it was offered in 2023, it would probably have an all electric motor from a Tesla and would be lighter and smaller.
The 4 runner is still meeting emissions norm in its current state but the whole package is quite outdated. Hence the reason, Toyota has continuously added more features in other areas like safety entertainment, creature comforts etc, to keep the vehicle relevant.

I love the simplicity of my 4runner no doubt. And still find it to be a breath of fresh air among all those electric buttons and screens and technology. But I would not buy this generation new in 2024. I would want better quality interiors, better materials, improved NVH levels, improved passenger comfort, engine refinement, better paint quality, improved panel gaps etc etc.

 

Familiar refrain, it seems. We've been hearing this said every year since 2017 about the 2018 MY...here we are 6.75 model years later, same ol' same ol'. Safety stuff is pretty much it for new stuff since 2020. With new paint thrown in from time to time.

 

This is my reasoning for shopping for a 24' as well. I'm looking for something reliable that's going to last me 10 years or more. Plus there's tons of after market parts for the 5th gen already, I won't need to wait.

While I'm sure I'll love the new 6th gen, I'll want to wait for the kinks to get ironed out before I even consider one.

 

Why would anyone with a 2023 model be ecstatic about another model year with the same vehicle, any more than any previous MY owners?

I would think 2023 owners would be ecstatic if the 2024 was a new generation, that no one wants the first year of...

 

I meant it in the context that if someone bought a 2023 and a brand new 6th generation was launched in 2024, one would feel bad about investing in an older generation but if the same model ( 5th generation) came out in 2024, they would still have the latest generation in 2024 also. I was thinking more on the lines of depreciation I guess.

 

Probably last chance to buy a new 4Runner with a V6.

I bet they run out of these well before 6th gen is announced.

 

Ok, I can see that. I hear a lot of late model year owners saying they'd like to have the last year of the current generation, just to say they got the latest one sold, so they could hold on to it 'til death do them part.
